Coast Artillery of the Republic of France

French coasts are heavily fortified with artillery of various vintages. The most modern emplacements are those using the 340mm/45 Model 1912. Each of the five cancelled Normandie class battleships (laid down 1913, launched 1914, cancelled ) were to mount twelve, in three quadruple turrets. In some cases, these turrets have been retained for the coast artillery emplacements. Other emplacements use dual turrets. A total of 72 340mm/45 were made available to the coast artillery. And since the scrapping of the Danton class predreadnoughts, 40 245mm/50 Model 1906 have also been assigned to the coast artillery.

Ner French 381mm gun

The French Army announce the beginning of trials of a new 381mm gun. It is a 40 caliber design, and a range of shell weights from 890 to 925 kg will be tested. This gun will eventually arm French battleships, but its initial deployment will be with the Coast Artillery. Turret designs for dual, triple, and quadruple turrets are under consideration.
