ARA Avispón (ex- Italian Giovanni delle Bande Nere)

Brought in 1940 from Italy. Bande Nere was reconstructed in 1934, with a new steam/diesel powerplant and additional bunkerage. The four barbettes were removed and a single 152mm mount added in their place. A large transport deck was built along the weather deck. Alongside of the new superstructure is a small flying off deck for light aircraft and autogyros. On the starboard side of the superstructure is a large gangway for ease of embarkation in port. Aft is a 50t crane and two assault boats. She can serve as an aircraft transport, replenishment vessel or a landing support vessel. Below decks are accomodations for 300 troops. Between this ship and the ten MZ landing craft it is possible to transport a battalion of soldiers over short distances.

ARA Almirante Brown

Acquired from Peru in Q4/1948. Peru had acquired the carrier entered into negotiations with Italy in 1941 for this former training carrier. Italy undertook an extensive refit in order to prepare the vessel for combat service, and handed the ship over in July 1942.

The Argentine airgroup is expected to be approximately 24 FMA I-02N Pulqui fighters and 24 IMPA NT-2 Alicanto torpedo-bombers.
