Iberian News Summary 1932

January
2nd- The Iberian Corps of Engineers was formed today from engineering units from all 3 services. It's purpose is to be able to deal with all and every military construction project by pooling the wealth of knowledge and experience of it's men in one group with substantial resources at it's command.

February
7th - Zeppelin Iberia is to merge with D.A.F.(South) to form D.A.F Iberia. The new company will continue to service the Armada's fleet of rigid and dirigible airships, and will also start designing new aircraft for the military and civil markets.

March
31st - TOP SECRET - At the monthly Foreign Affairs briefing at the Ministry of Defence, particular note was paid to the increasing volatility in South America. The armed forces in the region are to be brought to stage 3 readiness - TOP SECRET -

April
7th - The Armada has announced the purchase of 60 D.A.F. Ro.W.XIV Ronaut for use in coastal patrol duties.

May
17th - Cierva Autogiro and D.A.F. have entered into a design agreement to develop a series of large autogyros for both civil and military use. The first will be a 4 seat design for "Co-operation" duties with the Armada and the KDM.

June
1st - The King has granted the use of the Royal yacht Aguila to his Eminence, Cardinal Eustaquio Ilundain Y Esteban, and his entourage, so they can travel in comfort to The Eucharistic Congress in Dublin, Ireland, from the 21st to the 26th of this month.

July
17th - A meeting between the different department heads of I.C.E has taken place to determine the order of construction for the coming year.

August
2nd - At the request of our Peruvian allies, it has been decided to send selected units to Peru for training and exercises in the high mountains and jungles. The first units will be from the mountain divisions and the marines.

September
12th - The Armada has approached Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico of Treiste, Italy, to design and build a vessel capable of transporting outsize loads between operational areas.

October
17th - Preparations are being made to remove all Iberian assets from the Danish Naval Station at Bangkok, in accordance with Denmark's agreement with Siam.

November
21st - The first flight of the Cierva-D.A.F CD-1, a 4 seat autogyro, took place this morning. The craft differs in design from earlier autogyros, in that it has a system whereby it can shorten it's take off run by pre-spinning the rotor.

December
15th - The office of the Minister of Defence, Madrid.
"The Peruvians have declared war on Bolivia, allied to the Chileans! Madre De Dios, what next?" thought the Minister's secretary. "Well there goes Navidad at home" she said quietly to herself. The intercom on her desk buzzed at her.
"Si, Senor?" A mumbled voice called out a string of instructions, which she took down in perfect shorthand, and then read them back for confirmation, (she had learned from her predecessor's demise that the Minister had a habit of having a selective memory, and was determined to outlast him at the Ministry!!). She closed the connection and started composing a string of telegrams to be enciphered and sent out to the parties concerned&."Si" she thought, "No Navidad for me!"

17th - Iberian Arms, in conjunction with Madsen of Denmark, has developed a semi-automatic version of their 57mm a/a cannon. "The weapon is basically a development of Madsen's own 37mm automatic, which is itself a development of our older 37mm design. It is clip fed as is the 37, but the clip size is reduced to 3 rounds instead 5 for ease of handling. The cannon is still in the testing phase, but early results are looking very promising.

29th - TOP SECRET - Following reports from sources in the area and articles / editorials in several South American publications, Iberian forces in the region are to be brought to stage 2 readiness - TOP SECRET -
