August 20, 1933 - Berlin

The KM has cancelled work on the H8d T3 torpedo project, requesting that the budget for this project be zeroed and put into the KM's shipbuilding fund. When asked, a KM spokesman said, "The project was to build a better torpedo than the H8d T2, but the torpedo engines kept exploding or catching fire. A torpedo whose engines explode isn't very useful, so the KM has requested that the project be terminated so the money can be applied somewhere else."

[And thus ends the KMs attempt to acquire a 600mm pure oxygen torpedo.]

September 8, 1933 - Rechlin

Flight testing of the planes competing for the Luftwaffe's next fighter contract continues, with some surprising changes in rankings. The Bf-109 has, so far, been showing itself as superior to the going-in favorite from Heinkel, the He-112. However, testing is expected to continue at least until the new year, so Heinkel (which is planning to deliver 4 more test machines by the end of the year) has a chance to win back the contract it thought was all but in it's hands.

August 20, 1933 - Berlin

President Eckener has asked Dr. Jarres of the DNVP to form a government, after his party's leading showing during the recent elections.


August 21, 1933 - Berlin

Erich Ludendorff, for years the leader of the NSDAP and this year the leader of the DAP, has, after his loss in the recent elections, announced his retirement from politics. "It is time for younger men to lead Germany into the future. I have done my duty, as I saw it, for the Fatherland, let others take up the banner and do the same."


August 21, 1933 - Berlin

Negotiations have begun in earnest between Dr. Jarres and Chancellor Cuno on what shape the new government of Germany should take. Without Chancellor Cuno's DZP, Dr. Jarres has little chance to form a stable government, which will make the negotiations difficult. Certainly the DZP will demand a number of seats in the Cabinet, commensurate or more so with their position. Whether the negotiations will be successful remains to be seen.

September 4, 1933 - Berlin

The broad outlines of the likely new government is taking shape: Dr. Jarres will move to the Chancellorship, and the DNVP wil acquire a number of other Cabinet positions; Foreign Minister Stressemann will remain exactly where he is, while Chancellor Cuno will become Treasury Minister and the DZP will receive a number of other Cabinet posts. Rumor reports that the main issue now is what posts, if any, to offer the EP.

September 16, 1933 - Berlin

Chancellor Jarres presented his Cabinet for Reichstag approval. The government consists of a coalition of the DNVP, DDP, DVP, and EP, with the SDP, KPD, DDP, and BDP in opposition (though the BDP can be expected to vote with the government on many issues). This government is the first center-right government the Reich has seen since the end of the Great War, all previous governments have been center-left or grand coalitions.


September 25, 1933 - Rechlin

A new version of the Heinkel He-112, with a Daimler Benz DB-600 engine installed in place of the Jumo-210, took to the skies today and demonstrated vastly improved capabilities. In addition to the new engine, a new tail, new enclosed cockpit, and new wings were fitted to the plane, making it almost entirely different from the previous aircraft.

When it is almost entirely different from the previous aircraft, you might as well change it to Heinkel He-113 or so. Even if it is just to confuse the enemy.

It could have been, but historically it wasn't. The He-112 really did go through this sort of change over it's history.

Heh. He-112T's are not CURRENTLY on the list of things the Luftwaffe needs. Might change in the future, currently the Luftwaffe's about to let a contract to Heinkel to build some He-51Ts for training on the to-be-completed-next-year training carrier Otto Lillienthal, but there are no current requirements for high-performance fighters to operate off a carrier (since Otto Lillienthal is a training carrier and the Kreigsmarine does not currently have any fleet carriers).
