Independiente (ex-Minas Gerais), purchased in 1937 in a damaged state from Brazil, repaired and refitted in 1940 to enhance her AA capabilities. She has since been relegated to training duties when the newly repaired and rebuilt Simon Bolivar class Battle cruisers entered service.
