MARINKURIREN 27.06.21 - EXTRA: REGICIDE!

EXTRA: REGICIDE!
OFFICIAL ANNUNCEMENT FROM THE ROYAL PALACE BY THE HAND OF THE LORD STALLARE
On June 20th, the Royal Yacht arrived, as planned, at Karlskrona, as part of the Royal tour of the Kingdom. On the following day, the Royal Yacht, as scheduled, attended a naval excercise performed to evaluate the combat effectiveness of the newest type of destroyers of the Navy.

As part of the exercise, the two destroyers KNM Urho Saanio and KNM Torstein Arctander were to pass at full speed between the Royal Yacht and the target, at a distance of two hundred metres from the Royal Yacht, while shelling a fixed target. The destroyers were fully loaded, with all munitions at 125 per cent of capacity, including a complement of depth charges.

As the former destroyer passed near the Royal Yacht, a massive explosion consumed the forward third of the destroyer. As the ship was then moving ahead at a speed of 27 knots, it was mere seconds before the ship had plowed itself beneath the waves. The explosion caused large quantities of splinters to be flung around the entire area, being lethal out to a distance of more than 500 metres. There were no survivors aboard the Urho Saanio.

The force of the explosion, as well as the splinters, also caused the bridge-crew of the KNM Torstein Arctander to be rendered incapable of action for a crucial amount of seconds. As the ships were in line ahead, the latter ship passed directly over the sunken hull of the former, and at the precise moment when the 52 depth charges reached their preset depth, causing an explosion powerful enough to fully break the back of the second destroyer, as well as causing leaks into the hull of the Royal Yacht. Of the crew of Torstein Arctander, 97 survived, some later dying in hospital.

Of the persons present aboard the Royal Yacht, the following were killed:
HM King Gustav V
HM Queen Victoria
Their unborn child
The King's Equerry
The Royal Yacht's First Officer
The Royal Yacht's Assistant Engineer
Five other crewmembers of no notable name or rank

Preliminary investigations into this event indicate that the event was not an accident, but a deliberate action. The scope of preparations necessary to conduct such a murder indicates to the government that a foreign power has been directly involved.

Efforts to contact the immediate heir to the throne, HM Carl XVI Philipp, Duke of Stockholm, Lieutenant Commander in, and High Admiral of, the Royal Nordmark Navy, and chief navigational officer aboard the cruiser Sigtuna, have so far not been met with success. The cruiser departed South African waters some two weeks ago, for a low-speed crossing to South Africa, stopping at Bouvet Island for charting-missions. Contact has been established with South African authorities on this matter some days ago, and relevant information exchanged. Acting regent is HRH Prince Bertil-Eugén, Duke of Kalmar.
