I like the BB33, it has a good secondary armament and AA defence. Armour seems reasonable to me, whats the TDS like in detail? I would prefer a slightly faster speed myself.

Carrier seems good but I guess cruisers might be a better choice rather than more carriers.

The TB is fair for its size and displacement but it seems lacking in gunpower and speed. Ideal for stooging around in Fijords though.

Monday, November 13th 2006, 2:21pm

TB's gun armament is about right for the size, if anything (based on the historical German T-1's) it might be too heavy, though the historical ships were larger and faster.

The BB looks solid, as usual with the Nordish designs.

Hard to say which would be better, another carrier or a pair of light cruisers, but the carrier design looks reasonable enough. A bit slower and not quite as good a seaboat as I'd like for patroling the north or south Atlantic, but you're tonnage limited and that would cut into your airgroup.

4

Tuesday, November 14th 2006, 2:44pm

I'd hold off on the carrier - there's been little time to learn much from the first ship, and the other two are stillb building. Give it a few years, and you can both incorporate actual operational experience and avoid a block obsolescence issue.

5

Tuesday, November 14th 2006, 7:19pm

The TBs probably aren't a good choice for you. They're just not big and seaworthy enough and will create a large drag on manpower. This in exchange for a unit that isn't much good at anything. Its only real use would be numbers for use as coastal escorts, but they aren't really suited to this role.

6

Tuesday, November 14th 2006, 7:47pm

The main theatre these ships will deployed to are in the Baltic. Destroyers are at a premium in Nordmark's fleet, and the Baltic fleet is slower than the rest of the fleet, thus these ships are capable enough.

Or is another option better?

MTB's?

Escorts?

Cruisers?

7

Need destroyers if operating singly or with capital ships. For coastal traffic, something like Flower class will suffice. Don't forget about the ice.

Hmmm...

Firstly come Nordmarks first major units in 8 years, built to replace the BC's laid down in 1914.

If I am not mistaken, looking at Nordmark's list of capital ships, you should have these 7 BCs and 2 BBs:
- Oscar II
- Birger Jarl
- Göta Lejon
- Den Norske Løve
- Dristigheten
- Manligheten
- Tapperheten
- Oden
- Gustav V
... so I would guess that it makes more sense that those BBs will replace the Oscars, right?
Also, how many of these 1933 BBs will you build?

nope, Nordmark has

- Oscar II
- Folkunga Leon
- Göta Lejon
- Den Norske Løve
- Dristigheten
- Manligheten
- Tapperheten
- Oden
- Gustav V

Oscar II is to be sold, alongside Folkunga Leon.
Then when the BB33 Class ships come into service, the 3 Dristigheten class ships will be withdrawn from service, unless the treaty is non existant by that point, in which case they will be rebuilt.

That will give me

2 Gota Lejon Class BC's
2 Oden Class BB's
3 BB33 Class BB's

and either a supercruiser (if treaty is still there) or

3 Dristigheten Class BC's

I based that list of retained Nordmark capital ships from the thread here. There's no Folkunga Leon mentioned there...
... but there is a Folkunga Lion there. ;-)
The reason I missed it is because the names are at the bottom of the design list. It's not mentioned in the second post. ("2. Göta Lejon battlecruiser, laid down 1911, three ships, the two first named Göta Lejon and Den Norske Løve.)
BTW, You'll have to get rid of either the Göta Lejon or Den Norske Løve or violate the CT.

doh, my spelling is terrible

I don't think so!!!!!

2*Gota Lejon @ 26929t each therefore 53858t total
2*Oden Class @ 40359t each therefore 80718t total
3*BB33 Class @ 39201t each therefore 117603t total

Folkunga Lion will be disposed of in 1934, and Oscar II is expected to be sold in late 1933.

That leaves the 3 Dristigheten class ships which will be scrapped/sold if the CT is still standing when the BB33's enter service, and if the CT hasn't been replaced or renewed by 1937 they will be refitted.

Actually it's not quite right what I said. After all, it depends on when you lay down the keels of all three BB33s...

15

Wednesday, November 15th 2006, 10:41pm

well one will be laid down in q1, 1 in q3, and 1 in q1, 1934
