Another battlecruiser design.

Well, the Rock doctor suggested i should post the design in case anybody were interested. :)
Feedback both on the design and the image would be great!

She is immune to 20cm guns at most expected combat ranges (something like at least 14km-22km), and her 84k kW engines give her a speed equal to most cruiser, and still fast enough to avoid almost all battleships.

Looks pretty similar, in a lot of ways, to the currently under construction German Blucher class CBs. A hair smaller, a bit faster, but not as good a sea-boat and a bit less deck armor.

LOL, folks, go build them. it's gonna come out of your capital ship tonnage, remember? :)

A quad 12" turret on a beam of 24m? Especially two of them mounted forward? Not going to work well, at all, the barbettes would be too big for the hull around them to be very strong.

Doesn't, it seems, apply to the Australians, and Germany's building them to get back into the capital ship game. Besides, 2 of them use up only enough tonnage for 1 heavy ship, leaving me tonnage for 4 full size BBs and the hull allocations to allow me to do so.

Only 11 years after she was commissioned in the case of Blucher, since El Cid was laid down in 1920 and Blucher in 1931.

Well, mine is almost finished...and El Cid is close at hand.

The Armored Cruiser Capitan Tylor is a Spithead, but she's only got 8 inch guns. 16 of them, but only 8 inch. Her speed is somewhat lacking and her armor is slightly less than the Oyama, but she's be nasty in a fight with some of these. Oyama is the correction of the errors of the Tylor.

And Chile need no worry about treaty tonnage.

I see your El Cid and raise you two Vengeance class BC's.

Vedergällning: I like her, I'm sure someday I'll grow to love her tower though :-P

Only 90 main shells?

Hm, yes it is on the low side, maybe should look into some tweaking of the armour scheme.
But i dont know if anybody noticed that the torpedo bulkhead also covers the full height of the main belt, and meets the armoured deck at the top of the main belt. This means tat a shell that penetrates the belt still have to get trough the 4cm bulkhead.

Hrolf Hakonson : Yes she is sacry similar to your Blücher, but what can i say, great minds think alike? :)

Quite a nice design and similar my own above. More speed, less armour. Just depends on what your priorities are.

Korpen, I think the main problems with your design lie in the detail. Need separate boiler/turbine rooms for better torpedo protection > two funnels. Deckspace seems to be a bit of an issue when light guns are added. I went for a similar method in making the Atpbh taller to act as a splinter plate.

Korpen, I think the main problems with your design lie in the detail. Need separate boiler/turbine rooms for better torpedo protection > two funnels. Very nice ship, more dangerous to capital ships, less dangerous to a cruisers then mine.
The reason i like ships in this size is just this fact that the different design priorities is so distinct.

I think i am willing to take the penalty of using only one funnel, i prefer the look of single funnelled ships.
But i don't think deckspace is much of a problem of the ship, i felt there are plenty of open spaces on her,
but i have made some modifications on the layout and placement of the 40mm guns (image below).
Also made her 1m thinner, (with the resulting loss of survivability) as that allowed me to increase the deck to 75mm and add 10 shells per gun.
Added platforms on the hangar and funnel as well, mainly for putting 20mm guns on (20mm guns not drawn).
The only dead angle for the AA is from low astern, so maybe i should move a pair of 40mm from the funnel position to the transom to cover it?

Hmmmmmm

that is very useful to know, I think one of the BB33's might gain that name

Australia has quite a few designs in the 18-24,000 ton range. From a 18,000t Augustski, to the above design (revised with larger beam, TB bulkhead) to a smaller Alaska, and a 6x13.5" All Fow bigger version of the above.

At the low end of the scale Australia has two Heavy Cruiser designs one with 15x7.5" and one with 9x9.2" based on the same hull.

The theres this one. :-D
