Previews, Never-Weres and the like

M1

A projected monitor with a 38cm twin turret inspired by OTL British monitors. Projected until somebody reminded me the Cleito Treaty allows for a 30,5cm main armament only. Her very heavy secondary and third armament was bought at the costs of getting a cramped ship (which would probably immediately explode once hit - because of all the ammo lying around). On the other hand such armement would have allowed to use the ship as some kind of ram when attacking defended beaches with multiple targets. The drawings show her in a mid-30s and a 40s layout.

FR25-42

A projected second batch to my current frigate design. Not sure if the design will see the light of day. Such a small hull hardly makes for a good AAA escort so why putting a heavy 6x2cm mount on it? We´ll see what RSAN naval designers decide. The drawing needs to be dedusted too, methinks, as it is one of my oldest drawings and is lacking in details and shows features I don´t like anymore.

CA34F

An experiment to see what kind of design would be necessary to build a killer for all the fast light cruisers and DLs floating around. By cutting speed afterwards it turned our the hull could also be used for a superior armed CA (12x21cm - superior at least compared to actual RSAN CA-designs).

Kaiser II

The second oldest drawing I still have. Meant to carry 12 35cm guns it was designed for my Sarhonic Fleet - an alternate navy that later became the Royal South African Navy once WesWorld was born to life. Originally it was also lighter than 40,000ts but I modified the design and thus the displacement shown on the drawing according to Cleito Treaty limits. However, she seemed outdated somehow and when time had come to lay down new capital ships other designs were more appealing. Back to this drawing - her origin is a mix of BISMARCK, RICHELIEU and KGV obviously. Today I´m neither happy with her AAA layout nor with the use of deckspace in general. Her forward superstructures looks awful on the deckplane and the rest is a mess too. Still, from the side her conning tower features a few things that may be used again later.

Mine Cruiser

The oldest drawing I still have - or variants of it. Her length to beam ratio is way too high, her hull too slim for her superstructure and upper weights resulting in what looks like rolling over in a minute. Way too topheavy. Her forward superstructure was inspired by OTL LEANDER but the rest is pure fiction. The only good feature is her raised aft turret giving space for mine rails aft. Armor protection was nearly none existant even if there is a belt on that picture.

BC Concept

This one was introduced to WesWorld in the early 20s when the SAE thought about laying down some replacements for some pre-1911 capital ships retained. Obviously the drawing was done with alt_navals online tool which no longer is available. I finally sunk the design and went for something different (OPHION-class).

Battle

The BATTLE-class is another pre-WesWorld design of mine. Designed after the KAISER II she´s based on the idea to build the ultimate BC - something that could even outrun an IOWA-class fast battleship. So the design stury assumed speeds of 35kn and more. Her hull was based on that of IOWA but being much lighter only 8x35cm guns could be installed while keeping reasonable armor protection. On a hull 270m long that´s not very much and hence she looks a bit empty. Her forward superstructure was inspired by french RICHELIEU as was her main armament layout obviously. Some of her design features may make it into other WesWorld designs or studies (like the CA34F above) in the future but it is highly unlikely she´ll be build as shown below.

The RSAN originally intended to lay down a pair of these in 1936 as a follow-on to the Dione-class but due to the war in South Africa these plans were abandoned.

For the rebuild of RSAN Mauritius in 1937 a series of design studies was run by famous naval architects Shin-Ra, Red Admiral, Thesmilingassassin and Hood before the final design could be fixed. The template below allows an overview over these studies with the original unmodified battleship in the upper left corner.

Thanks again to all helping with this!

The idea behind this design is a to have a multi-role vessel capable of defeating all the worlds large super-cruisers and older BC and probably BBs plus adding an airborn element for superb scouting, spotting and probably even attacking (depends on type of plane carried - wheeled ones like on a real CV, fitted to be launched from cats).

However, when presented to the Design Board naval architect from all over the world shot it down in flames and rated it a flawed design and misleading concept. Main reasons were the danger of fires because of avgas and turbulences created by her supterstructure that would render her flight deck useless.

Should I come to the conclusion that AVs are no longer a valid asset for the RSAN, proposals for conversions into CVE have already been made.

Flight deck length would be about 150m

Version 1 - flight deck about 160m long

Version 2 - different armament and other options that drop the price
