Aug 17
Foreign Minister today made a statement concerning the recent Peru-Iberian Treaty.

“While we have no wish to interfere in anyway in Peruvian affairs and appreciate the isolation Peru has experienced in recent years we are worried about the resurgence of Iberian influence in South America. Given the feelings toward the imperialist empire and our former ‘masters’ this can only be a bad thing for peace in the region. Naval intelligence has revealed that Iberia is going to send the powerful cruiser El Cid to Peru. This move we object to strongly. If Peru wishes to score points against Atlantis we suggest it takes into account the opinion of its neighbours. If it is arms and friendship it wants Peru only has to ask and we will gladly supply both. The Navy has agreed to continue the sale of Sarimento to Peru but unless further political changes are made then further arms will not be sold to an Iberian puppet.”

Aug 19
Today the head of the Argentine Naval Commission in Europe Admiral Galindez signed the papers handing the two new P-Class submarines to Argentina. Now complete they will spend the next few months in German waters while the crew learns the basics of submarine control and combat.

Aug 22
At AFNE at Bahia Blanca the Chief of Staff of the Navy Adm. Antonio Moreno Smith attended the launch of the two Chaco Class minelayers/escorts Chico and Colorado laid down early in July. Both were launched by Senorita Galveos, the yard owner’s daughter. At first thought to be the first two of the Anti-Aircraft Escort variant these ships in fact will complete as normal minelayers.

Reports of a mercenary operation that snatched Paraguayan political dissident Luis Contreras have reached the government. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the release of Luis Contreras who had been imprisoned under General Hector Ramon Garioza Ruiz Diaz’s cruel dictatorship. Meanwhile the Army and Air Force have dismissed claims from Paraguay that Argentina was behind the kidnap plot. Gen Barbera the Army CoS made this statement, “Argentina has never used mercenaries since the 19th century, only FUM and D’Silva used such forces and they all have been removed from Argentina. The fact all Argentine Ju 52 airliners were accounted for and no Fuerza Aerea Argentina units were operating in the area, or I might add, lack any fighters like those described makes these allegations very serious. There are no foreign pilots in Argentina with Talons over Cordoba not starting until October. Where these men have landed and where the aircraft originated is a mystery but if they are found they will be held for questioning.”

Aug 23
Reports of British mercenaries at a remote airstrip have been received. Army units have been fired on in the border region with Paraguay and the border has been closed. All passengers leaving Argentina by ship, plane or overland are being checked. The Army has confirmed no weapons are missing and no aircraft flown over Paraguay during the 21st. The Navy has stepped up patrols to stop any smuggling of weapons into the country.

Twenty-four Accrisius FN-7 Archer fighters have been received from Atlantis to equip Aerea Regimenta No 2 at Military Air Base Bahia Blanca.

Aug 25
Luis Contreras has been released by the Army today and given the full freedoms denied to him in Paraguay. He has now setting up a ‘Free Paraguay’ movement and many ex-FUM members have now changed allegiances and have been reported to have entered Paraguay. While there is no war between Argentina and Paraguay the border remains sealed to protect our nation and the government feels it should not intervene in the civil war there unless national security is affected. The government also claims it has no interest in propping up General Hector Ramon Garioza Ruiz Diaz’s corrupt regime. No trace of any mercenary units has been found in Argentina and the Army and government deny any involvement in the release of Luis Contreras.

Sept 1
The Fuerza Aerea Argentina has confirmed the I-100 Barron order from FMA for 144 fighters over the next three years. Two additional Fighter Regiments will be created. The Army has now officially ordered 100 T-1M31 light tanks for the Mechanised Corps.

Sept 2
An Italian cargo vessel carrying aircraft for Paraguay has been docked and her cargo interned for the time being. The government feels it is unwise to supply these arms given the current situation.

Sept 5
The Navy publicly announces the SS Intrepida is a pirate vessel and that the Mexican Navy has fought a battle with her. Santisima Trinidad, Almirante Brown and General San Martin have raced towards the Western Atlantic to intercept her and capture the crew.

Sept 11
The Army again denies Paraguayan claims that British mercenaries are being used to interfere in Paraguay and aiding the revolution. The Navy has mobilised the Gunboat Support Squadron and the three River Fire Support Squadrons to secure the border and prevent any unauthorised movements across the border from either side. They have been authorised to fire back if fired upon by Paraguayan ships or land artillery. Stricter security measures have been enforced at railway stations throughout the country.

Sept 13
HMS Danae sunk by SS Intrepida off the Cayman Islands, HMS Durban suffered only minor damage. Danae suffered several hits and on fire and engineless she had to be abandoned. Trinidad has joined with units of the Atlantean Navy and will soon enter the area.

Sept 15
SS Intrepida sun by Argentine and Atlantean naval forces south east of Grenada. No survivors were found. The hunt for the cattle baron Antonio D’Silva continues as it is believed he is Europe somewhere.

Sept 29
Refugees are flooding across the border from Paraguay and camps have been set up. The fighting is now worse and the Army is considering setting up aid camps along the border. Reports have reached the government of massacres in the Abai region. The ‘Free Paraguay’ party has brought all the arms aboard the Italian vessel for the rebels. The Italian government has agreed and the Argentine government has accepted this decision and allowed the transfer of aircraft from Argentinean soil.

Not sure if the SAE welcomes increasing Italian influence in the region. Could have negative effects on Argentina/SAE relations. The Argentinean ambassador in Pretoria is expected to be called for some consultation....

Yes the Italians seem to be eager to pick a fight with somebody in South America with involvement in Argentina, Mexico and also Peru IIRC.

Italian influence? Nope, just Italian companies making some money. The dealings with Mexico will be addressed in time.

Selling weapons to rebel groups is more than just "making money", Italy is essentially arming a group who has the aim of removing the legitimate democraticaly elected government in Mexico.

This ultimately has a trickle down effect, threatening the economic undertakings of 3 major nations, America, Atlantis and Mexico.

That being said, the issue will correct itself in short order.

That isn't a good thing?

The company in question was not operating through the Italian authorities. Something the investigators will find whilst looking into something else.
