Danish-Siamese Mutual Defense Treaty


Part I

Article 1
This agreement between the Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Siam shall commence on 00:00 hrs 1 January 1932 and remain in force until it expires on 24:00 hrs 31 December 1949.


Part II

Article 2
The Kingdom of Denmark agrees to withdraw its military forces from the Kingdom of Siam, except as provided in Parts III and IV, during the period between 1 January 1932 and 31 December 1934.

Article 3
The Kingdom of Denmark agrees, during the period stated in Article 2, to provide military assistance and training to the Kingdom of Siam.


Part III

Article 4
The Kingdom of Siam agrees to lease to the Kingdom of Denmark, for the duration of this agreement, the island of Phuket.

Article 5
The existing commitments to the Kingdom of the Netherlands regarding the usage of the port and dock facilities at Phuket shall continue to be honoured.


Part IV

Article 6
The Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Siam agree to assist in defending each others interests within the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and surrounding regions; including but not limited to the establishment of naval exclusion zones, joint military operations on land, at sea, or in the air, and supply of munitions.

Article 7
Pursuant to the intentions stated in Article 6, the Kingdom of Denmark agrees to station a naval force at Phuket of sucifficent force to assist in the protection of the coastline of the Kingdom of Siam on the Andaman Sea.

Article 8
The Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Siam agree to protect civilian shipping of the each nation in international waters adjacent to their own territorial waters.


Part V

Article 9
The Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Siam agree to politically and economically promote the forming of joint ventures in the following areas: the marketing of raw materials and products, the exploitation of natural resources, and the development of technologies.

Article 10
Customs duties between the Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Siam shall be eliminated.

Article 12
The Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Siam agree to guarantee citizens of each nation medical treatment in case of need.

Article 13
The Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Siam agree to initiate a program of student exchange between universities in each nation.

Article 14
The Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Siam agree to conduct joint scientific research into the the studies of seismology and meteorology.
