The laying down in Germany of the two P-Class submarines Salta and Santa Fe was attended by the head of the European Naval Commission Admiral Galindez. He made a short speech here is an extract, “these two vessels mark a new chapter in Argentine naval history. These are our first submarines and we hope the quality of these vessels match those that roamed the seas nearly twenty years ago with such deadly effect. There is no doubt they are the most deadly weapons at sea today. It is only natural we yield this power ourselves for defence”.

Engineers and workmen have begun arriving at the site of the new Grand Station in Rio Gallegos to begin work on the new Argo-Nordish 3 foot narrow gauge railway network. The state owned firm to operate the line is SCRN (Santa Cruz Railway National) and it will have Nordish investors and board members.

Alfredo Castagone has left Italy en-route for Atlantis on the new battlecruiser Patagonia. Pampas will refuel and carry on home alone accompanied by the two transports.

The first four Vickers Type E tanks have arrived in Bahia Blanca today and will be transported by rail to the new Mechanised Corps based at Santa Rosa. Commanded by maverick officer Maj. Gen. Antonio Miguel Barbera the company sized unit will expand to a battalion in size by 1933. Intensive training is to begin soon in vehicular navigation (driving and map reading), engineering (maintenance both in the field and more technical subjects), gunnery, tactical movement, strategic movement, infantry co-operation, radio courses and the importance of camouflage. Another batch of 30 Chrysler open-topped scout cars are to be purchased. The Vickers tanks will be known in Argentine service as T-1M31 (Tank-first design Model 1931 the six Vickers B will be known as T-1M31A).

Today the Army has revealed a small plantation was raided by six FUM members near the border. The owner Miguel managed to hold them off with his elderly rifle while his two sons informed the local D’Silva Militia unit. When the militia arrived on horses the terrorists fled, the militia men pursued them and caught three of them. One was shot dead and the other two escaped. Regular cavalry patrols are now searching the area.

On the need for militia forces business mogul Antonio D’Silva, the founder of the D’Silva Militia, had this to say, “today’s events have confirmed why citizens need to be armed to protect themselves. We need brave men like mine to enforce law and order in rural areas where the Army, while doing a good job, are stretched too thinly to protect everyone.”

The Libertad and Santisima Trinidad have arrived in Atlantis to escort the new Patagonia and Senor Castagone home. The fleet will set sail at five am tomorrow morning.

The trade delegation managed to succeed in drawing up an import duty reduction on both sides. Talks with foreign office officials have been successful; an official spokesman did not reveal anything further about these discussions.

The foundation stone of new expansion to the Army Arsenal was laid today by Maj. Gen. Antonio Miguel Barbera and Defence Minister Vice Adm (ret). Juan Perez Benedicto Hood. Due to begin production in 1933 this new factory will produce Vickers Type E tanks and armoured cars for the Army.

This means I'll either have to do better on destroyers or lay down the three historical submarines Chile built in this time period. (I have not love of simming subs...unless it is something unusual I'll just go with regular submarines, since we know they worked.)

You could buy used subs on the cheap, or if newer boats are your preferance how about the D-22 type?

Nov 10
The Ministry of Defence and the Navy Ministry is warning of major exercises in the South Atlantic during the period Dec 15-23. All merchant ships are warned to be careful. Traffic in international waters is unaffected but the Ministry of Transport will provide safe routes for coastal traffic.

Nov 12
The FMA factory today revealed the Italian order for four I-100 fighters. The Fuerza Aerea Argentina has decided not to buy the FMA Llama light trainer in view of newer designs under development. The Navy is still progressing with a light seaplane design based on the Llama. The first I-100 prototype has begun another set of altitude and speed trials while construction begins on the next two prototypes and the Atlantis order.

Troops have begun deploying for the naval exercises. Banderas No. 1 and No. 2, Regiment de Artillería de Campaña No. 7 and Bandera No.2 and No.3, Tercio de Infantería de Marina No. 25 Bandera No.3 have begun moving southwards. Fuerza Aerea Argentina observation planes have deployed to Rio Gallegos along with a squadron of FMA (Avro) 504 bombers.

In response to the spread of El Derretir in SE Asia all imports and exports to the region today have been stopped by the Trade Ministry and all potentially infected ships will be forced out of territorial waters by the Navy. Contra Almirante Cordell in charge of the current anti-smuggling patrols has said, “If so much as a sampan comes near I’ll blow it out of the water.”
At the Cordoba Medical Institute several of the top doctors and surgeons have met to discuss El Derretir and possible cures and vaccinations and methods of isolation.

The Ministry of Defence today confirmed the recent deal with Italy to build MAS boats with help from Baglietto will also include the new MZ1 coastal transport/tender.
The Ministry also confirmed that the Brazilian Air Attaché has placed a large order with FMA for trainers and possibly fighters. An FMA press spokesman revealed more, “Brazilian needs are for modern trainers and fighters. We have agreed to begin building the FMA T-514 for Brazil with deliveries beginning after Christmas. About 144 are wanted. Some of this order may be converted to the monoplane trainer type we have under construction now which should fly early next year. From 1933 we are looking to export to Brazil the I-100 Barron fighter with intentions to purchase 864 over six years”. FMA will reveal full specifications for its new types next year along with plans for a new research facility.

Also today the Foreign Affairs Ministry published the Argentine-Chilean Agreement know as the Esquel Treaty and the Foreign Minister today made a statement favouring Chile in her troubles with Bolivia.

Today the 2nd Torpedo Destroyer Squadron was officially formed today at Comodoro Rividavia under the command of Capitan de Navio Honchez. The two Corrientes Class vessels under Customs control are also attached at the moment for shake-down cruising and training.

“The Government of Argentina wishes a Merry Christmas and a peaceful new year to the world,” words from President Gomez’s Christmas speech on National Radio.

Today the Ministry of Works and Labour has released a statement concerning next years Naval Building Plan. “The construction of many ships in our yards will provide 5800 new jobs; some 3500 of these jobs will be filled by the unemployed. The steel mills and machine shops of Argentina have received large orders and it is clear that Argentine naval expansion not only buys peace but bread and economic prosperity for all”.
