Websites

www.world-war.co.uk

The best naval website on the net. A bit slow because it uses Java. Can't download images as they are copyrighted. Masses of information and friendly webmaster.

www.tarrif.net

General stuff with aircraft and land equipment as well. The penetration figures for all the land-based guns are what makes this site a keeper.

http://www.marina.difesa.it/storia/Almanacco/Navi000.htm

Official Italian Navy history site.

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aj.cashmore/

Good for older ships like armoured cruisers and pre-dreadnoughts.

http://www.warships.web4u.cz/staty.php?language=E

Database of WWII ships. Good pictures and lots of information but dodgy stats.

http://historion.net/index.html

Contains a couple hundred scanned history texts that may be of interest, including one from Alfred Mahan. Just found it while researching pirate stuff.

www.brainyhistory.com/years

www.timelines.ws

Couple of those "what happened on this day in history" type of sites.

www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/

The CIA factbook is a useful guide to world geography.

www.scphillips.com/morse

Some info on morse code and phonetic alphabets.
