Admirality "S" class Destroyers

Im trying to sim using SS2 the British Admirality S destroyers, but Im having no luck. Anyone have any ideas? I need at leaste a rough idea because I want to refit them. Here are their specs:


Dimensions 265 (p.p.) 275-277 (o.a.) x 26.66 x 9 feet(mean) draught. 1075 tons
Guns: 3-4 inch (Mk. IV with 30° elevation), 1-2 pdr. pom-pom. Tubes, 4-21 inch in pairs.
Machinery : Turbines (all-geared type). Brown Curtis (A.G.) in all except following:-Palmer boats, Parson. (A.G.) ; Tilbury, Tintagel, Parsons (A.G.). Designed S.H.P. 27,000 = 36 kts. 2 screws. Yarrow boilers in all, except White boats with White-Forster. Oil: about :300/250 tons.

Putting a transom on, even though ahistorical, is the only way he's got a prayer of getting close to the real ships top speed in SS. Even with it he's 3 knots slow on the same SHP.

That looks like the same ship - though the site only quotes a speed of 32.5 knots. The sketch is interesting, as it suggests to me that you've got more freeboard than historical, which won't help the hull strength.

Agreed, the displacement is much lighter than historically indicated - so's your bunkerage.

Oddly, I can plug similar data into springstyle and get a very happy little tincan out of it (seaboat rating not withstanding). Maybe - since we're not talking about a battleship here - you need to just tinker with the dimensions some and create a ~1000 t destroyer with 33 knots and 3 guns that does work for you.

That cross-sectional hull strength needs to be 0.50 or better; reduce the ship's exceptional range somewhat and you should be okay.
