United Kingdom News Q1/1930

19 January 1930

The Royal Air Force has issued a requirement for a new monoplane fighter, in view of the fact that its’ existing aircraft are outclassed by their foreign counterparts, and even the Hart light bomber. Although the Hawker Company is developing the Fury as an interim aircraft, even this is felt to be inadequate for use in the long-term.

The new aircraft will be required to have the best possible speed at 15,000 feet, and also to carry four 0.303-inch machine guns. An engine of approximately 700 horsepower is expected to be required for this aircraft.

22 March 1930

The Foreign Office stated today that it had few concerns over the Persian acceptance into the SATSUMA treaty in Southern Asia. Some observers have expressed doubts about oil supplies, much of which come from the Persian oilfields. It has been stated that the Iraqi oil infrastructure is capable of supplying much of the needs of the British Isles, with the shortfall being made up by imports from either the United States of America or from Italian Libya.

26 February 1930

His Majesty’s Government has sent its’ best wishes to the Raj and the Crown Prince of India. The following press release has been issued:

Quoted

Over the duration of his reign, the Raj has contributed in a major way to the cause of peace around the world. This country has not always seen eye to eye with his policies, but there can be no doubt that they have given rise to a far better world.

It is our sincere hope that the United Kingdom and India will be able to develop a closer friendship after the coronation of Crown Prince Shrinivas. We also hope that the Raj will recover his good health once the strains of running his country are passed on.

We look forwards to a profitable relationship with India in the future that is peaceful and prosperous for both parties.

28 March 1930

The Ambassador to Nordmark has been seen visiting the Foreign Ministry of that country frequently in the last few days. There has been no comment on the reason for these visits, but it is believed to be related in some way to the treaty between Nordmark and Canada.

Italy would be glad to find another customer for its Libyan oil. The infrastructure in the country still needs more development until full production can begin...

But the Gladiator is a biplane; the requirement is for a monoplane fighter.

Vickers Venom would be cool...

Boeing, who stole her from Breda;

The Vickers Jockey is a better fighter, which then turned into the Venom which was too small.

On behalf of the Raj, the Government of India thanks His Majesty's Government for its kind sentiments. Certainly our two empires have had some troubles in their past, and potential sources of future conflict still remain, but it is the desire of this government and the Crown Prince to resolve these issues in a peaceful and cooperative fashion.

The Raj is indeed optimistic that his health may improve, and is flattered that he may be seen as a source of peace in this world.

His Majesty or a suitable representative of the United Kingdom are certainly welcome to attend the Coronation.
