Re: Coast Guard question

Where would Coast Guard ships fall under our rules? Would they be treated the same as Navy ships as far as building slips and resource allocation, etc? Or would they be considered non-military? Many were built in civilian shipyards which aren't in the US infrastructure.

Wouldn't the majority of ships in the Coast Guard fall under the unlimited categories?
Other than that, I'd say since they carry weapons, and could be used in military capacity (ie, convoy escorts, coastal patrolling, etc. basically what they did in the various wars we've been in), they'd be counted as military.

But that does bring up a question; How do the shipbuilding rules apply to small vessels built on land, but not in a slip or a drydock?

Here you go...

"Wooden vessels 200 tons and smaller, 150ft and smaller, can be constructed at a number of 1 per month for every whole three factories a nation possesses. Constructing such craft does not require use of the slips or docks in a players infrastructure, as long as no more than 1 craft per month per whole three factories, is constructed, but constructing such craft still requires an amount of materials equal to its light displacement out of the nations war-materials production, in the month the vessel is constructed. For the purposes of the sim, the construction of such a craft is assumed to last exactly one month, all of it on slip. Repairs do not occupy any capacity, but are still paid for in materials. Shake-down cruise is assumed to last 1 month for full effect. "

Most of the major units are just over 150 ft and just over 200 tons. The Actives were 125 feet, 220 tons or so. I can tweak them a bit to bring them under the 200 ton limit. Is that 200 tons standard or light?

Light, IIRC.

As for the larger units, I remember a discussion a while back about building multiple ships in larger slips/drydocks.

I guess I should look into the Canadian coast guard at some point. <<
