Persian - French Treaty of Non-Aggression

Persian - French treaty of Nonaggression

Preamble

The Government of the Republic of France on the one hand and The Government of the Persian Empire on the other, desirous of strengthening the cause of peace between them and improving the economic relations between them, agree to the following:

Article I.

The Contracting Parties obligate themselves to desist from any act of violence, any aggressive action, and any attack on each other, either individually or jointly with other Powers.

Article II.

Should the Republic of France or the Empire of Persia become the object of belligerent action by a third Power, the other Contracting Party shall in no manner lend its support to this third Power.

Article III.

The contracting parties hereby agree to the following transaction:

Naval units of the Republic of France are hereby granted emergency basing rights in the Empire of Persia indefinitely, unless the Empire of Persia wishes to withdraw from this agreement, at which time Persia must give a full year's warning before withdrawing from this agreement.

The Republic of France may withdraw from this agreement at any time, provided three months' warning is given to the Empire of Persia. If France wishes to build infrastructure and establish a more permanent presence in Persia, warning before a withdrawal from the agreement must be made one year prior to a cessation of the agreement.

Any infrastructure built by France in Persia will be sold to Persia at half-price upon a withdrawal by France or Persia from the agreement.

Article V.

The present Pact of Non-Agression is concluded for a period of ten years.

Article VI.

The present treaty shall be ratified within the shortest possible time. The ratifications shall be exchanged in Paris. The Agreement shall enter into force as soon as the Instruments of Ratification have been exchanged.
