F.I.N.E.R. Special Report - 19 May

Major Currency Stash Found!!!

Acting on an anynomous tip, forces of the Manila Constabulatory conducted an extensive search of the residence of the late Presidente Sebastien de Varga yesterday.

What they found was a series of secret rooms under the mansion, one of which contained an immense strong-room filled with crates, which when broken open were found to contain a vast amount of gold and silver coins!

While Manila Constabulatory chief Colonel Sebastien Moran refused to comment when asked about the value of the stash, it has been unofficially stated that the amount is expected to be in "well in excess" of 50 million American dollars.

The entire hoard has been confiscated by the Filipino Government, and an investigation will be launched to determine exactly what means the former Foreign Minister used to acquire such a personal fortune...

50 million dollars is a LOT of money for the standards of the day.

What would it roughly be in today's money? Something like 0.4-0.5 billion dollars? Who knows what kind of legal (and less legal) things President de Varga did during his life...

Thank goodness for this discovery - now the Filipino government can afford Commodore Garcia's expense claim.

(This, BTW, is actually the stash of the last two Presidentes; you may recall a certain break-in...)
