20 July, 1927 - Rheinmetall – Unterluss

A delegation from the Kriegsmarine visited today to witness demonstrations of new automatic weapons. Korvettekapitan Ernst Schmitt said on arrival, "We're here to see some new prototype anti-aircraft cannon that Rheinmetall has developed. The company has developed new cannon that range from light automatic cannon that could replace our 20mm weapons up to some larger guns that might replace the current 88mm weapons on our ships. We will be looking to see how these weapons compare with the ones we saw at visits recently to Krupp and Mauser Werke. After that, it's up to the Reichstag to vote the Kriegsmarine the money to buy the weapons."

The naval observers had no comment after the demonstration. It is expected that a report will be filed for the Reichstag by the end of the year.


10 August, 1927 – Hamburg

Street fighting erupts between KPD and NSDAP supporters, after a KPD march through the streets. With Reichstag elections only a year away, both parties are trying to raise their profiles while the major parties try to ignore them and hope they’ll fade away as Germany continues to recover from the effects of the Great War and the ensuing reparations.


11 December, 1927 – Kiel

The last of the 4 Koln class cruisers, DKM Bremen, has joined the fleet and begun her six month shakedown cruise. Her arrival into the fleet gives the Kriegsmarine 4 light cruisers and 4 destroyers that are fully modern in both design and outfit, something that until now has been somewhat lacking.


15 December, 1927 – Berlin

The expected report on the Kriegsmarines desire for improved anti-aircraft weapons and observations of the prototype systems has been delivered to the Reichstag. Reports of it’s contents are fragmentary, but if the reports are correct Rheinmetall appears in a commanding position to receive new orders, with it’s 105mm, 88mm, and 20mm weapons all being rated higher than their competition. Mauser Werke’s 37mm weapon barely beat out Rheinmetall’s entry, and Krupp’s 88mm and 105mm weapons were rated below their competitors from Unterluss.


18 December, 1927 – Berlin

Alfred von Tirpitz, former Grand Admiral and current Reichstag member and head of the Fatherland Party, has announced that he will not be running for office again in the coming elections. His Fatherland party is expect to dissolve with his retirement, with most of their support flowing to the German National Party and some to the National Socialist Party.
