Kingford-Smith crosses Pacific!!
June 10th 1928

Sir Charles Kingsford Smith and Charles T. P. Ulm, togheter with navigator Harry W. Lyon and radioman James Warner, flew their blue Fokker Trimotor the Southern Cross from Oakland, California 7400 mi across the Pacific. They stoped at Hawaii, and the Fiji Islands, arriving yesterday in Brisbane, Australia. Crowd estimated at 300,000 greeted them today in Sidney.

RAAF News
July 15th 1928

The Royal Australian Air Force has begun an ambitious program to update its inventory. The first shipment composed of 2 sqd of Gloster Grebes and 1 sqd of Westland Wapitis has arrived. The Grebes will replace a pair of F4 sqd who will in turn replace the F2Bs. The Wapitis together with the F2Bs will replace the DH9As. The Vimy bombers will be upgraded with new engines and equipment.


HMS Iron Duke Arrives!
July 21st 1928

Today the rest of the warships promised by our mother country arrived. His Majesties Ships, Iron Duke, Argus, Spencer and Shakespere are now officialy in His majesties Australian Navy. Contrary to popular opinion HMAS Tiger will not be renamed. It will be Jellicole's flagship who will take the name of our beloved country.


The Mexican Canal
August 5th 1928

The Goverment has announced its intention to contribute financially to the construction of the Mexican Canal. In the words of PM Billy Hughes, "It is an issue of national security. SLOC can be compromised in case of war. The more routes we have the better."


Pirates of the Pacific
September 30th 1928

The Goverment congratulates the Chileans, Indians, and Danes who were instrumental in removing a threat from the seas.

The Navy announced that an escort composed of Tiger and a Destroyer Squadron will be provided for our Indian friends on their visit to Australia.

Good stuff. I'm surprised at the choice of capital ship. I was thinking that it would be another BC to provide a bit of force homogeneity.

Note that Dhaka's visit will be delayed by several weeks on account of the repairs in New Caledonia. Figure about ~7 November now.

Well, it makes sense from the standpoint of a common main-gun calibre (13.5"). The only other BC in that calibre is Princess Royal, and she's currently "otherwise occupied". ;-)


And yes, we do need to figure out what's up with Gravina...and Kaiser...(and Hooman seems scarce lately, too...)
