Z53 2nd class DD

During 1928-1929 this class of DDs will be launched,

A total of 12 units will be built.

An evolution of the previous 1st class DDs of the Z45 class, this second class destroyers have slightly smaller dimensions and displace 1600 tons standard, yet they carry more weapons and are, in general, more capable than the previous, larger, class.


This destroyers carry 5 125mm DP guns and 8 21'' torpedoes. They are also capable ASW assets with 50 tons of miscelaneous weight invested on depth charges.

This class will replace the ageing Z25 class of destroyers, which will be rebuilt as pure ASW assets.

hummm why not, it was developed by the end of WW1...not sure if by 1928 it was still kept secret by USA and UK, tho. If it was, then there will be no asdic for Z53 :D.

The BC is because her complying with the treaty. I can bring it a tad up, put the ship at 1650 standard and call it a 1600ton ship, as it is well within the 5% limit. One way or the another it's more or less the same with me, the ship will be even better if I make it a tad larger ;)

I'd suggest increasing the block co-efficient a bit and reducing the other dimensions to compensate. But it's a spanky design otherwise. India will certainly take notice.

I like your choice of main armament. Good to see somebody else not using 130 mm guns...

ASDIC and SONAR were developed solely by the UK in the 1920s with many working sets being installed in the late twenties. No other country knew about this until WWII. Since things have to remain "fair" it is supposed that everyone has access to this technology.

She seems a fairly capable destroyer.

She´s indeed a very capable design. The RSAN laid down something similar in 1927 - but RAMs design carries more shells per main gun (albeit slightly smaller caliber) and two additional torpedos. Her misc weight compensates for her slightly shorter range... Not a bad choice, though.

well, I've done some research on the matter ASDIC was developed during WWI by both USA and UK. The americans called it SONAR while the english ASDIC, but both were bassically the same set. By 1918 both nations had produced a working set and tested it.

First operational ship with a "serial" ASDIC was in 1922, much later than waht I thought. And indeed the details of the device were kept in secret until WW2.


So, no ASDIC for Z53, nor Z25 :). Edited the references to the device in both threads.
