Folks:
India was intending to build four new destroyers in 1928-1929, basically slightly larger and faster versions of the G-143/Bassein class. This would give India 35 destroyers in total, still well short of her treaty allowance.
On the other hand, with four capital ships and sixteen cruisers (not counting the Vadodara class), India has a force ratio of 1:4:8 with the existing destroyers. It could be argued that I have enough destroyers as it is, if a 1:3:5 ratio is considered ideal.
I'm torn here. India's resources will be strained but I can do:
-Build four larger, faster versions of the G-143 class, configured for anti-surface work
-Build four slighly slower, but longer-legged versions of the G-143 class for carrier escort work
-Or, refit all eleven of the G-120 class destroyers (built 1918-1921) and have 2,700 t left over for other things (ASW launches...sloops...minelayers). Rebuilds don't appear to be worthwhile, as the machinery doesn't change much, but I can update the entire armament.
Thoughts?
