Ships for NPCs

I've been working on simming some ships of the NPC nations...starting with Brazil.

I'd like to suggest that the WesWorld version of the Minas Gerais-class dreadnoughts be equipped with turbines, instead of the @ VTEs, as I absolutely cannot get proper hull strength - or armour coverage - with the latter.

Here's my proposal for an update of their light cruisers:

Bahia, Brazilian Light Cruiser laid down 1908 (Engine 1926)

Displacement:
2,617 t light; 2,765 t standard; 2,981 t normal; 3,154 t full load

Dimensions: Length overall / water x beam x draught
391.75 ft / 390.00 ft x 39.00 ft x 13.45 ft (normal load)
119.41 m / 118.87 m x 11.89 m x 4.10 m

Armament:
4 - 6.00" / 152 mm guns (2x2 guns), 108.00lbs / 48.99kg shells, 1926 Model
Quick firing guns in deck mounts with hoists
on centreline ends, evenly spread
6 - 4.72" / 120 mm guns in single mounts, 45.00lbs / 20.41kg shells, 1908 Model
Quick firing guns in deck mounts with hoists
on side, evenly spread
2 - 3.00" / 76.2 mm guns in single mounts, 13.00lbs / 5.90kg shells, 1908 Model
Quick firing guns in deck mounts
on side, all amidships
4 - 0.50" / 12.7 mm guns in single mounts, 0.06lbs / 0.03kg shells, 1908 Model
Quick firing guns in deck mounts
on side, evenly spread, all raised mounts
Weight of broadside 728 lbs / 330 kg
Shells per gun, main battery: 200
2 - 21.0" / 533.4 mm above water torpedoes

Armour:
- Gun armour: Face (max) Other gunhouse (avg) Barbette/hoist (max)
Main: 3.00" / 76 mm - -
2nd: 1.00" / 25 mm - -
3rd: 1.00" / 25 mm - -

- Armour deck: 1.50" / 38 mm, Conning tower: 3.00" / 76 mm

Oil fired boilers, steam turbines,
Direct drive, 3 shafts, 27,862 shp / 20,785 Kw = 28.00 kts
Range 8,000nm at 10.00 kts (Bunkerage = 388 tons)

Complement:
201 - 262

Miscellaneous weights: 50 tons, 1.7 %

Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
2,234 lbs / 1,013 Kg = 20.7 x 6.0 " / 152 mm shells or 0.6 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.05
Metacentric height 1.3 ft / 0.4 m
Roll period: 14.2 seconds

'Natural speed' for length: 19.75 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 60 %
Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 68
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): 5.00 degrees
Stern overhang: -2.00 ft / -0.61 m
Freeboard (% = measuring location as a percentage of overall length):
- Stem: 20.00 ft / 6.10 m

- Stern: 13.00 ft / 3.96 m
- Average freeboard: 14.40 ft / 4.39 m
Ship tends to be wet forward

Ship space, strength and comments:
Space - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 124.7 %
- Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 119.0 %
Waterplane Area: 10,227 Square feet or 950 Square metres
Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 101 %
Structure weight / hull surface area: 70 lbs/sq ft or 341 Kg/sq metre
Hull strength (Relative):
- Cross-sectional: 0.92

So they replaced four of the 4.7s with 6 inch guns and removed two torpedo tubes? (one pair or a tube each side?)

(swapping two 3 pounders for four machine guns I can see).

I'm guessing they are longer then historical by 10 feet (380 feet long and 401.5 feet overall...according to Jane's 1936).

The ref I had said only two fish...but that's easily fixed.

As for the length, the 380' is "post-to-post" - stem to rudder post. The actual lwl will be a tad longer, so I guesstimated it.

Its a little better armed then historical in places, but still quite sinkable....:)
