AANM Excercises 1927

1927 AANM Naval Exercises

2nd February:- The arrival of all forces concerned, the Italo-Danish force in Naples and the Iberian force in Cagliari. The compostition of the respective forces is as follows;
Italo-Danish
2xCaracciolo Class Battleships
2xHel Class Cruisers
1xCVX Jutland
1xCVL Francesco Ferruccio
2xBornholm Class Cruisers
10xNavigatori Destroyers

Iberian
2xPortugal Class Battleships
3xSanta Maria Class Cruisers
6xAvada Kedavra Class Cruisers
4xHasta Luego Class Scout Cruisers
12xD91 Destroyers

5th February:-After a few days of acclimitisation in their respective ports and the area around them, the naval exercises have been officially started by Admiral Ciano. The umpires arrival yesterday was a shock to the people of Naples as 3 airships appeared over the city. After a few years of extensive service the 3 airships are to be the eye in the sky and presenting a god's eye view for the umpires. It has been hinted that 1 airship shall shadow each squadron, with the other being in reserve.

7th February:- The last two days have been devoted to gunnery exercises for both squadrons, as well as the placing of interpreters amongst the various vessels. The Iberian squadron showed the observers an impressive display of maneuvering as a formation. The Italo-Danish squadron had a few teething problems, notably when KDM Mon was nearly rammed by RM Cristoforto Columbo after an unexpected turn. Both side's gunnery was said to be average at best.

Actual details of the exercises themselves have not been released to the general public. A few things can be learnt from the quick return of the Danish Jutland to Naples with its sailors fuming. It seems certain that Jutand was 'sunk' in short order. How this could have happened remains a mystery.

As an aside, I did write quite a bit but then came to a grinding halt. It was taking too long and turning into a novel rather than a brief overview. Thus it has been censored.

Well, you had the start of something. I guess we can only speculate on what happened with Jutland.

I did actually sort of write a bit about Jutland. I'll wait for a few speculations then maybe post what happened.

Speculation

Hmm...Perhaps a judge deturmined that a bomb went off below decks or on deck, and took her out of action before things really got going.

Or the potental random engine trouble ruling. (or actual engine trouble)

Or you had an old-school judge who still doesn't believe in airplanes and disqualified them for bringing a fictional weapon to the excercise.
