Admiral Makarov class armored cruisers, 1905

Admiral Makarov, Bayan, Gromoboy

These ships were maintained in the Baltic Fleet while the new Admiral Makarov was under construction. It was decided some years ago to reconstruct them as command/fire support ships for amphibious operations, where their low speed would not be an impediment to successful operation, while their firepower and armor were more than adequate to face field artillery. They were renamed because their original names had been taken by the new Admiral Makarov class.
