2.0 Russian Federation Navy Organization

Russian Federation Navy ships are organized as follows:

Battleships - Battle Divisions of 2 ships, and Battle Squadrons of 2 Battle Divisions. As per Russian Federation Navy Battle Instructions, Battle Squadrons are not subdivided for independent operations, but are employed as a unit against the objective of the Main Effort.

Aircraft Carriers - Attached directly to fleets, with temporary Carrier Divisions established if two or more aircraft carriers are operating together

Cruisers - Cruiser Divisions of 2 ships, and Cruiser Squadrons of 2-3 Cruiser Divisions. As per Russian Federation Navy Battle Instructions, Cruiser Squadrons may be subdivided for independent operations.

Destroyers - Destroyer Divisions of 4 ships, and Destroyer Flotillas of 3 Destroyer Divisions. Some Destroyer Flotillas with old destroyers have a light cruiser as a flotilla leader, and destroyer tenders may also be attached.

Sloops - At present, this type of ship is not employed in Russian Federation Navy

Submarines - Submarine Flotillas of 10 ships. Submarines are employed mainly in independent operations, but Submarine Divisions, temporary organizations below Flotilla level, may be established for partiicular operations, and and submarine tenders may also be attached.

Light Forces - Corvettes, Patrol Ships, and Subchasers are organized into Flotillas of 10 ships, and tenders may be attached. Motor Torpedo Boats are organized into flotillas of 20 boats for administrative purposes. Temporary organizations are established for particular operations.

Auxiliaries - Minesweepers, Minelayers, and Mine Warfare Ships are organized into flotillas of 12 ships. Other auxiliaries are attached directly to major units.

Chief of Naval Staff - Admiral Fleet of Russian Federation
Role: Oversight of naval operations, operation of personnel system

Director of Naval Operations - Vice Admiral
Role: Development and maintenance of naval war plans, in coordination with Fleets and General Staff.

Director of Naval Design - Vice Admiral
Role: Development and testing of warship designs, including their hull, major weapons, propulsion, and communication systems.

Director of Naval Construction - Vice Admiral
Construction and refitting of ships and coordination with industry in support.

Director of Naval Doctrine - Vice Admiral
Role: Development of naval doctrine. Operation of the naval education and training system.

Director of Naval DAviation - Vice Admiral
Role: Development and construction of naval aircraft.

Director of Naval Intelligence - Rear Admiral
Role: Naval intelligence, including special operations, signals intelligence, and counterintelligence.

Director of Naval Communications - Rear Admiral
Role: Operation of naval communications and sensors, including radar.

Director of Naval Infrastructure - Rear Admiral
Role: Naval logistics.

Surgeon General - Rear Admiral
Role: Keeping officers and seamen functional. Operation of naval hospitals. Training of naval medical personnel. Medical research. Incorporation of medical facilities during ship design, construction, and refitting.

Director of Naval Finance - Rear Admiral
Role: Beating the money to pay for all this out of the Duma. Oversight, auditing, and investigation of naval finances.
