[Berlin, 4 February 1921]
The German Government is pleased to announced the appointment of Vice-Admiral Anton Wegener to the post of Commander in Chief of the Reichsmarine, effectively immediately.
Vice-Admiral Wegener replaces Vice-Admiral Adolf von Trotha, who was dismissed from the post in November after his treasonous activities were uncovered.
Vice-Admiral Wegener is 59 years of age, and has spent thirty-nine years in uniform. His commands to date include the armored cruiser Roon , the pre-dreadnought Pommern , and the dreadnought Konig . Vice-Admiral Wegener subsequently led Battle Squadron Three against invading Nordmark forces in the Baltic Sea in 1917.
Vice-Admiral Wegener hails from Bremen, and is married with two children and three grandchildren; a third child, Corporal Dieter Wegener, was killed in action at Ypres.
