Cayenne Pepper - 3 July 1927

The completion of the airbase at Bienvenue on the Oipoque River brings the mission of the Franco/Atlantean/Russian naval patrol to a close. While enjoying relatively few tactical successes against the bandit raids, the patrols of carrier aviation contributed to the decline in the frequency if the attacks. It seems that the risk of interception by aircraft was too great to make the raids profitable. With a permanent airbase established, that condition will continue.

Vice-Admiral Jules Laucher commented that the mission had other benefits as well: "We learned a great deal about the difficulties of aero-ground operations, and have put programs in hand to solve the difficulties of air-ground-sea communication. With communication, the Armed Services must have a common programme, or they will be reduced to sign language with one another. This lesson has been learned by military and political authorities, and we have already seen benefits from it."

Perhaps you should take a look at the Prieur Rockets and modify them to give a bigger Whoosh (tm) so that your planes can set the forest on fire. Once the trees are all burnt down, you can easily spot those bandits moving on the ground.

Well I'm sure the Russians would approve of that harsh yet decisive tactic, thankfully the French and Atlantians are a little more tactfull!

I think it would be a last desparate measure to take on those bandits... and if the rockets do their job properly, this plan will work!

What seems to have been sufficient was to make the raids appear to be more risky for the bandits. The aerial presence, like the policeman walking his beat, is a standing encouragement for the criminal to find an alternative means of getting a living.

Following the proclaimation of success in french Guiana made by the French, Atlantian military visionary's are examining Atlantian tactics, particularily carier operations. The Franco/Atlantean/Russian naval patrol has curtailed its patrol missions after the completion of the French airbase at Bienvenue.

Dominic Kritiaus, Minister of the navy is convinced that the navy should have its own airforce. "Confusion in the opening months of the patrols was a serious problem, further complicated by the constant shuffling of orders between all military branches involved, all nations involved and the technology used.

Some of this confusion was alieviated by the introduction of naval translaters and wireless teams but intersevice communication remained a problem. We sometimes had to wait for Army/Airforce approval before striking a target, approval which itself involved further deliberation between the Army and Airforce.

The navy already has its own landforce, the Corsairs, with the introduction of a naval airforce the navy's ability to conduct warfare efficiently will greatly improve as a result of one simplified comand structure.

Some Airforce officials oppose the idea stating that there is no need for such an expansion and that the navy is trying to "run the show". "whats to stop the navy from taking the airwar right to the enemy's living room once a conflict is started?" asked one official.

The Army tends to disagree with this arguement stating that the Corsairs while a formidable land force have never taken over the army's role in land warfare.

"The navy Corsairs may have taken the beaches but its the Atlantian Army that has done the lionshare of the fighting on land, the Corsairs have never exceeded Division strength while the Army in peacetime has never been below Army group strength."
