Aquila Class Aircraft Carrier

- Same basic design as Francesco Morosini in her reconstructed guise, albeit reduced in size.

- Deletion of 65mm AA guns on grounds of space.

- 130mm/45 guns with 28kg shells. Previous shell weight being 32kg. Lighter shell hopes to reduce strain in loading continuously for long periods.

- Same armour fit a placement as Francesco Morosini.

With your 17 (18 next quarter) factories and 34 slips and docks... no problem!

Zara is definitly a looker, altho she'd be even better with a foremast...

Foremast??? sacrilige you heathen

Using all your factory output, you can (in theory) build thirty 2,400ton ships in one year (11.5 months to be exact). If I am not mistaken, the Spica isn't even 1,000 tons. As for the slips and docks, When starting on January 1, they'll be available somewhere early June so you can lay down/repair/refit/rebuild other ships after that.

... Foremast. Definitely needs a foremast. :-)

Sweet ship

A fast and potent unit.

And resist the impulse to put in a foremast. There lies the Dark Side.

12

Does the Dark Side include quad 130 mm mounts?

Nice photo shop! What material did you use to create her?

I lioke her without a foremast - even though it looks like the Italians have stolen Queen Ann´s mansion! ;o)

Capitani Romani is relatively close to her historical sister, isn´t she?

Dark side

I tried with Knights of the Old Republic 2 to get one of my two characters to the dark side...
... unfortunately due to a few certain decisions, that character is more 'light' than 'dark'.

Now if I could only get Dark side points for adding foremasts to those Italian cruiser...
:-)

Why dark? Because the Dark Side has cooler powers. ^_^

Good work, as usual. I particularly like the new look for your carriers, especially the islands. Can't put a finger on why, exactly, but they just look right to me.

17

Wednesday, March 16th 2005, 4:40pm

Like the CV and the CA but I have just one little niggle...
Have you thought about setting the mains on the CV lower than the deck edge so as to give a cleaner air flow over the deck and less things to bump into if the take-off or landing is a little wayward? Because they are not connected to the island, there are now 5 points of hazard on the deck instead of just one!

Original pic is Bolzano. Not quite a Queen Anne's, I just put in an extra deck to give more room for flag and accomodation. The funnel is separated from the superstructure as in the light cruisers.

Capitani Romani, basically I needed some names, even though I was trying the avoid naming the class as that. Fairly similiar, but a bit smaller and slower.

Quadruple 130mm mounts would prove problematic.

The carriers are a blend of the historical Aquila design and British carriers. The design itself, the lower armoured hangar is quintisensially british as well.

CG, we can't expect the Italian designers to be perfect just yet. At the moment I can train 16 guns on most bearings, so its worth the risk. The biggest advantage of the carriers will be their damage control facilities. After the near loss of Francesco Morosini, things will have changed a lot.

19

Wednesday, March 16th 2005, 8:30pm

Actually in one project (I forget the number) the Russians did plan to have a quad 130mm mount.
The ship was a small cruiser somewhat similar to your design
(all the details are in storage - I think some numbers are on my laptop at home - if you are interested....)

Quad 130s

I thought you had a quad 130mm on one of your exploratori classes?

*goes off to look*

Ah, the one I was thinking of is the Generale Antonio Cantore-class, with quad 100mm turrets.
