Philippines Q2 - June - Part 1

This is "baseline" news...comments on the Paracels and the Russian, ah, diplomatic incident will be posted in the appropiate threads...

***

The Manila Times
2 June 1926

In a small ceremony yesterday, the Marina de Filipinas acquired the armored cruiser Nisshin from the Kingdom of Chosen.

The ship, which will be renamed PRS Bugsuk, is the MdF's fourth "escort cruiser"...

The Manila Evening Times
2 June 1926

Pirates meet their match!

The MdF patrol vessel Avispa has been having a busy few months. This morning, while on patrol in the northern Kalayaan Islands, they observed smoke on the horizon. Upon investigating they found the wreckage of a small vessel, run aground on a barely-submerged reef and aflame from stem to stern. After extinguishing the fire, the vessel was boarded and found to have been fully abandoned...and also to be a pirate vessel.

After removal of evidence, the ship was towed off the reef, and quickly sunk.

The Manila Times
4 June 1926

The Peruvian coast-defense ship, announced and then cancelled, is back on again.

The ship will be constructed in the San Fernando shipyard, with keellaying set for the first of July...

Assassination attempt on Foreign Minister!

An individual, now in custody of the Italian police, fired three shots at Foreign Minister Juan Sebastien de Varga yesterday during his stop in Rome, as part of his European Tour.

"El Aquila" was not injured, however an Italian diplomat accompaning him was seriously wounded...

---

The Manila Times
6 June 1926

The idenity of the individual who attempted to assassinate our Foreign Minister in Rome has been released. Signore Boris Badenoff, who holds dual citizenship in Italy and Russia and is well known for his espousement of Socialist dogma, fired three times at...

...both Filipino and Italian officials confirmed that Signore Badenoff was acting on his own, and not with "the support of the Russian Government or any other"...

---

The Manila Envelope
6 June 1926

What exactly are the Russians thinking? What is our own "Govermnent" thinking?!

A Russian attempts to assassinate our Foreign Minister, during a period where for various unseemly reasons there is tension between our countries, and we are quickly assured that the Russians had nothing to do with it?!?!!!

Perhaps El Presidente has been in office too long! Perhaps he is going soft. Perhaps he listens too much to that blasted lawyer veep of his!

El Aquila for Presidente!!

---

The Manila Times
8 June 1926

Having escaped an attempt on his life by a deranged member of the Left, "El Aquila" yesterday attended a rally by the Italian Facist Party of Signore Mussolini, making a speech of his own in which he stressed the "importance of cooperation" between the nations of Asia and Italy in "holding back the Leftist tide"...

Wouldn't the Iberian's be extremely concerned that the phillipines is arming a nabour of one of its colony's?

The proper question is...

Does the Philippines really care what the Iberians think? ^_^

For a very small power those Filiponos are quite snappy, methinks. ;o) Looks like they need a bleeding nose now and then...

In fact, they might thank you for doing so...

Well Given their naval strength I would say it would be sheer folly not to. They may not have the emidiate strength to defend their asian colony's but they can surely close the door on any expansion in other regions with help from their allies. Iberia also posess territory's very near to Atlantian territory's, which in turn makes Atlantis very watchfull. Should Iberian territory's that border Atlantian ones fall, a chain of events could be set in motion that would start another world war.

Apparently the Phillipino's may need to reshape their foriegn policy, lest some nation feels the need to teach them a geography lesson.

Its no secret that of the three major alliances the SATSUMA alliance is the weakest of the lot, and there are alot of "free agents" who are not pleased with the Phillipino dispossition.

Indeed and that is why El Presidente should step down.
Viva El Aquila!!

Ah! SATSUMA is the weakest of the four major alliances - you're leaving out SAINT.

And that's why El Pres...ah, never mind.

The Filipino Government notes that it is selling Peru a third class battleship to aid in the defense of their country, from neighboring countries that even with this addition will be able to steamroller the "Peruvian Armada" with ease.

We do not believe that one coast-defense vessel will make any great impact on the Chilean fleet, much less the Atlantian or Iberian ones.

----------------------

(ooc)

Perhaps it will take a "bloody nose" to slow down the Filipinos...then again, the puncher might well then become the punchee, once Japan's mighty secret fleet gets involved. :-)

As for the Philippines not caring about the Iberians, remember that the former were under the thumb of the latter for what, 250 years? Needless to say the Filipinos could care less about getting the Iberians angry. In fact, so much the better.

----------------------

On another topic...it's funny the things people don't (seem to) notice...

Diplomatic Note to Italian and Philippine governments - 7 June 1926

Russian law inforcement and intelligence agencies have been directed to provide all information in their possession about alledged assailant Badanov to authorities investigating assasination attempt against Filipino Foreign Minister.

Considering reports about alledged assailant Badanov's political views, his presence in Italy can only be explained by concluding that he has acquired a taste for periodically being served a liter of castor oil by those darkly-garbed purveyors of that remedy to Italian Left.

12

Monday, February 14th 2005, 11:42pm

Mr. Badanov didn't have an accomplice perchance? A tall, dark haired woman?

13

Tuesday, February 15th 2005, 2:05am

Unknown....but Mr. Oyama hangs around with a tall, red haired woman.

Diplomatic Note to the Russian Government - 8 June 1926

"The Filipino Government appreciates your assistance in this investigation. The Italian police has all jurisdiction over this matter, so all information should be funneled directly to them."

Yes but Atlantis has a non-agression pact with the SAE. In addition to that FAR and the AANM seem to have common worry's in reguards to SATSUMA so it seems the balance of power is being disrupted by bad relations.

I wonder if this deal (or others we have read about lately) are legal under the CT but in general I like to point out that I have no problem with the Filipinos building a third or forth rate warship for a neighbor. I´m just careful because of this "expension policy" or whatever you want to call it driven by local politicians of several countries in that region...

If FAR is looking the other way, they might get bit on the ass.

Well in that case three alliances would be at each others throats, I wonder how long it would take before two of them allied to take the other down?
