K.D.M. Sentinel CDS

With thanks to CanisD for getting my mind going.
I had decided that Denmark wasn't going to build any CDS's until I saw what he did with "New Ironsides"!!

Ton for Ton, I doubt if their is a more powerful class of vessel than the CDS.

Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
9,652 lbs / 4,378 Kg = 11.1 x 12.0 " / 305 mm shells or 2.3 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.04

Roll period: 17.0 seconds
Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 70 %
- Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0.46
Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 1.03

Hull form characteristics:
Hull has a flush deck
Block coefficient: 0.559
Length to Beam Ratio: 4.87 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 19.49 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 38 %
Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 68
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): 15.00 degrees
Stern overhang: 5.00 ft / 1.52 m
Freeboard (% = measuring location as a percentage of overall length):
- Stem: 15.00 ft / 4.57 m

Wow, nice one.

Nitpicking: There is not enough hull space available aft for a hangar as you planned it. The rudder machines have to be somewhere and even without them I doubt you´ll have enough height...

Nevertheless, a nice design.

She's nice but very cramped. Take off the aircraft, it takes up too much space.

The funnel is great :)

With only 15knt speed they are also some of the most vulnerable.

I think he is talking about the CDS class in general, not this particular class.

But most are slow with the exception of Italian and South African vessels.

The installation in question is not an aircraft hanger as we would normally think of it......think of it as more of a storage area for the "Huginn" system, it does not penetrate the deck, it is surface mounted.

Walter is right again!

I don't think speed is the biggest issue in the confined waters of the Kattegat!

I think your biggest problem is that 50mm deck you have. Of couse one has to make a sacrifice if one wants to mount six 12 inch guns and deck eats up a lot of hull strength.

Yes. The extra guns also impact your survivability. The French Petain class monitors are 4x305mm, but have 35cm belt and turrets, and a 12cm deck. And even with all that metal, they require over 6000kg of penetrating hits to sink. Of course, the Petain class is built to trade shots, for a little while at least, with opponents mounting 381mm guns.

Like it

You ever going to unvail exactly what HUGINN is/does? :-)

American genius

Wait until the Chilean version of "New Ironsides" is built.

Denmark is sticking a computer in the stern? (HUGINN is the Norse god of thought, isn't it?)

When facing 381mm guns and I had to make a choice, I would go for the Petain. I hate to stand on the bridge of those US and Danish ships when those 381mm shells come raining down.

Can't a Navy have any secrets???

And no-one has worked out what Loki is yet anyway!!

13

While I might not have 381mm, but how about 355.6mm?

No, not a god, but connected to one!!

Loki..hmmmm

Loki...Norse trickster god if I recall. A stealth system (cloaking device, smoke generator, holographic minic system)?

She is in the Danish Encyclopedia under Auxilliary Vessels.
Have a look and see if you can work it out!

Still makes me think it is a floating ICBM platform. ^_^

That, or a Q-boat with hidden medium-large caliber cannon in turrets under those doors. Barbetts on platforms.

No, that 's an old guess and it's still wrong. She mounts no more weapons than are listed in her specs.

keep guessing!

Hmmm

Seaplanes or torpedo boats as cargo.
