Guess I will stick to numbers for the TBs and SSs, and stick to various historic Japanese names for the DDs (with exception of the FSS class DDs).

Kinda sounds like some of those third-class destroyers Walter's already got.
I have to admit, it'd be vaguely humorous for a submarine to be forced to surface by a destroyer named Sildenafil Citrate ...
And one could boast that they were the only navy operating warships named by focus groups.
