The Yugoslav Army is presently developing a replacement for its aging M37s, which will emerge as the M50 sometime in 1950. The M50 has a short, retractable wire stock, which when extended gives the weapon a length of 720 mm, and the magazine well and magazine can be folded forward parallel to the barrel for parachute jump or with a 45° angle hence allowing a safe carry until the magazine well is brought back to vertical position before opening fire. Barrel length is 230 mm. As issued, the M50 fires a 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge, using a single-stack 20-round magazine for 32-round double stack magazine. The M50 is blowback-operated and box magazine-fed, with a cyclic rate of fire of 600 rounds per minute on full automatic
