Thailand Q1/1948-Q2/1949

A land left behind:

From the end of 1941 through 1947, a weak and ailing Monarch left Thailand at the mercy of the plutocrats and corrupt businessmen that always fill a vacuum left by a lack of leadership. Looking inwardly, Thailand improved its own infrastructure, and to a small degree its shipbuilding industry. Virtually all of it was done with the intent of lining the pockets of the rich and powerful run amok. A new facility, completing a factory factory complex was built, improving production (2.5 to 3 factories). And commercial ship production was not idle, with a slip in Bangkok being improve from S0 to S1.5, allowing ocean-going merchantmen to be built, with the drydocking facility nearby improved to 1.5 as well....further lining pockets. Throughout this, the Royal Thai Navy, Royal Thai Army, and Royal Thai Air Force were sadly neglected, with procurement non-existent and much maintenance ignored due to lack of funds.

In January of 1948, King Bhumibol Adulyadej ascends the throne in what could only be called the "Glorious Restoration". A staunch Nationalist and Orator, King Bhumibol Adulyadej finds himself with a nation in need of both work and national pride, and with an armed force that is the laughing stock of all of its neighbors. He launches a vicious anti-corruption campaign, netting a number of businessmen and official imprisoned, with more fleeing the country. Deciding to allow the improvements to Thailand's docks continue, stockpiled resources already at Bangkok are used to improve the remaining S0 slips to an S1.5 and an S1 respectively, resulting in the following as dockyard facilities for Thailand:

Bangkok:
S1 - 120m slip
S1 - 120m slip
S1.5 - 145m slip
S1.5 - 145m slip
D2 - 170m drydock
D1.5 - 145m drydock

Krabl
S0 - 70m slip

Phuket:
D1 - 120m drydock
D1 - 120m drydock
D0- 70m drydock

A new Nationalist Administration is put into place, and feelers are sent out for bids on equipment for the Royal Thai Army and Air Force:

Service Rifle
Machine Gun

Light Armored Vehicles

Fighter
Strike
Naval Strike
Bomber
Patrol Aircraft
Utility Helicopter

The Royal Thai Navy is ordered to run the following ships onto the beach for scrapping, as the King plans extensive building projects to begin in earnest to reclaim some of Thailand's former glory and to place it to be a regional power with all of the old Colonial powers granting local colonies independence:

o Light Battleship TNS ThonburiScrap
o Light Battleship TNS RattanakosinScrap
• Cruiserso TNS Maha ChakrkriScra
po TNS PhucketScrap

• Coast Defense Shipso TNS RatanakosindraScrap
o TNS Ko Si ChangScrap
o Ten MTB-1 Class Scrap

Additional ships are put into reserve as decisions are made on whether to attempt to modernize them or to scrap them.

As used in our game, a Sim Report - short for Simulation Report - is intended to be a rather detailed outline of what the player has done in terms of naval construction with the infrastructure and resources available to him. It would chronicle a quarters activity in construction - from keel laying to completion (in the timescale predicated by our rules) and trials (again, in a specified timescale). It would specify what vessels are repaired, upgraded, or scrapped, together with the details of where and when, and in the case of vessels scrapped, how much material is recycled for further construction. It would normally be expected to include an order of battle summary, so that other players can assess changes in your fleet strength.

Much of what you have covered above could be better addressed in the more general "News and Events" category.

Taccovert4,
I guess you might have seen this already but if not, this is last report for Thailand that we have: http://wesworld.jk-clan.de/index.php?pag…4%22#post117934

As Bruce says, reports tend to be technical things outlining how much tonnage you've spent on construction, how much you have scrapped and how much you have left stockpiled for the next quarter.
My advice would be to start working the report before getting too bogged down in plans and designs as in reality your available resources and slipways/docks will constrain what you can and can't do.

Reviewing the latest Thai sim reports I note several concerns.

The final sim report submitted by the previous player, Snip, closed out the 4th Quarter of 1941. It is located here.

In theory the intervening twenty four quarters (1942 through 1947) could provide sufficient infrastructure points to support expansion of the Thai naval infrastructure noted in the 1Q48 Sim Report; whether that would be sufficient to complete a half factory (in 4Q41 Thailand had only 2.5 factories, not 3 as noted in 1Q48) and the other naval infrastructure projects is a matter that needs to be accounted for in intervening sim reports and not merely assumed. Available infrastructure points and tonnage from the intervening quarters should be accounted for.

Looking the recent encyclopedia entries I note that the design of the destroyer Chaemp is deficient inasmuch as it contravenes Point 2 of the Design Rules for Gentlemen, found here.

Which specified a maximum L:B ratio for ships under 8,000 tons of 11:1.

Quoted

Chaemp, Thailand Destroyer laid down 1948
.
.
.
Hull form characteristics:

Hull has rise forward of midbreak and transom stern
Block coefficient: 0.450
Length to Beam Ratio: 13.00 : 1

There also appears an omission of oversight in the armament layout, which indicates four guns in the main armament but only three mounts, without an explanatory notes

Quoted

Armament: 4 - 3.94" / 100 mm guns (3 mounts), 30.51lbs / 13.84kg shells, 1948 Model Automatic rapid fire guns in deck mounts with hoists

I actually calculated that out for him a week or so ago, so I know the numbers work. I instructed him to start with the reports in 1948, with the intention of writing up a brief synopsis of the infrastructure improvements myself; I'll go back and do that later this afternoon, just for record-keeping purposes.
