Other Notes
Technology development and investigatory committees are working on the following projects:
- Proyecto-P: Proposed Oceanic Patrol Ship to replace Vanguardia, Ignacy Domeyko, and Piloto Pardo.
- Proyecto-Q: Midlife rebuild of Libertad.
- Proyecto-R + "Matorral": Exploratory studies commissioned by Naval Ordnance with input from Sisdef.
- Proyecto-S: Fleet Auxiliary Modernization Program.
- Proyecto-T: Proposed replacement for Parinacota-class destroyer transports.

The battlecruiser Capitan Prat is in reserve (mothballs) in Talcahuano. The battlecruiser formally retains its status as flagship of the Armada and has a caretaker crew. Official sources say the ship is not slated for retirement.

The Proyecto-O design cruiser Arica, the replacement for Guardia Marina Hyatt, has completed in Talcahuano. The ship joins Cruiser Squadron 1, where it shall serve as the squadron's specialty air-defense ship.

The cruisers Concepción and Chillán were decommissioned in September and December of 1947 respectively, with their crews transferred to new Araucanía-class cruisers. Concepción finished scrapping earlier this year, while Chillán begins scrapping this quarter. The armament has been removed, and six of the best turrets are being reused on the Chacabuco-class destroyers. Four twin 13cm turrets presently remain in the stockpile, and there is some discussion about using them for the Proyecto-P patrol ships or Proyecto-T type vessels.

Official sources state that the Almirante Simpson class destroyers, now reaching completion, are replacing the older Capitan Thompson-class ships in Destroyer Flotilla 1. The Thompsons are being moved to the reserve in pairs as the new ships enter service, with crews being transferred to the new vessels. Thus far, destroyers General Escala and General Lagos have been retired to the reserve effective June 1948, joining the remaining Temerario-class destroyers from the 7th Destroyer Flotilla. Two of the Temerario-class ships remain intact, while four vessels are in various stages of scrapping. Official sources indicate all remaining Temerario-class destroyers will be scrapped.

The Navy has made the decision that the planned Proyecto-P patrol ships shall only replace the Vanguardia (a former seal-taking ship) and the Piloto Pardo (an aging ice-cutter). The much larger expedition ship Ignacy Domeyko, employed in the same patrol duties in southern latitudes, shall be retained in service for the foreseeable future.
