Technology development and investigatory committees are working on the following projects:

The battlecruiser Capitan Prat is in reserve (mothballs) in Talcahuano. The battlecruiser formally retains its status as flagship of the Armada and has a caretaker crew. Official sources say the ship is not slated for retirement.

The Proyecto-O design cruiser Arica, the replacement for Guardia Marina Hyatt, is approaching completion in Talcahuano. The cruisers Concepción and Chillán were decommissioned in September and December of 1947 respectively, with their crews transferred to new Araucanía-class cruisers. Concepción finishes scrapping, while Chillán remains at pierside in preparation for scrapping starting Q3. The armament has been removed, and six of the best turrets are being reused on the Chacabuco-class destroyers.

The destroyers General Escala and General Lagos are retired to the reserve effective June 1948, joining six remaining Temerario-class destroyers from the 7th Destroyer Flotilla.

Overview: The Flota de Alta Mar represents the main striking power of the Chilean Navy. Traditionally it has been divided between the gun-oriented Battle Force and the aviation-oriented Fast Carrier Force, with resources divided between the two units according to necessity. Overview: The Flota de Litoral is responsible for the patrol of Chilean coastal waters for the purposes of maritime security and policing. It is divided into four administrative zones of roughly equivalent strengths (although the Third Naval Zone, based in Punta Arenas, substitutes ocean patrol ships for light craft).
