New Atlantean ships for 1942/43

Nereus, Atlantean Aircraft carrier laid down 1943

Atlantean designers attempted to take the Arcturus design and make it more survivable as well as carry more aircraft. The Nereus class has a thicker torpedo bulkhead, heavier AA armament and has more support facilities aboard. Also included in the design is a deck edge lift on the starboard side. Original sketches of the design also included a flight deck overhang to port of the Island to allow transfer of aircraft for and aft outside of the main landing area but this was ultimately removed from the design.

L class, Atlantean Destroyer laid down 1936

As done with the M/N class in regards to their improvements over their predecessors (I/J class) the L class destroyers represent a similar design process when designers looked to improve on the K class. Their AA was increased as well as their electronics outfit. While the K's did away with torpedo reloads the L class reverted to the standard modern destroyer outfit at the expense of half their depth charge capacity, landing their depth charge throwers and reducing the number of depth charges carried.

Type 42 class Fleet Submarine, designed to replace the old D-1 through 21 and boost fleet sub numbers, their entry into service was slow as the yards in Palinerus were too small to build them and needed to be expanded. As a result the R-98 class numbers were expanded and small numbers of the Type 42 (numbered using new classification system, SSF-16 onward) began building in 1944.

Two large subs planned for 1944. With rumors of various nations building Subs able to carry seaplanes, manned torpedo's and other equipment it was determined that exploration of this type of Sub was warranted. Like Japanese floatplane subs these ships used a twin pressure hull layout with a large pressure compartment outside the main hull. The placement of this compartment varied between the two ships, aft of the conning tower on Perch and forward on Permit. The two ships also carried a catapult and crane to launch and recover floatplanes, positioned to correspond to the placement of the hangar. Before the ships were laid down the area between the hangar and catapult was modified so that a landing craft or small amphibious transport could egress and be lowered into the water.
