Noticias Argentinas 1947

1 January
At midnight New Year celebrations erupted across the country in town squares and villages.

Following a rather lean year for shipbuilding, both Astillero Nav. at Puerto Belgrano and Tandanor at Comodoro Rividavia are welcoming two new orders, they have laid down today one each of the new Project 455 destroyers which aim to combine the best gunnery, anti-submarine and electronic equipment from across the world into a powerful and modern fleet destroyer. There are plans to build five of this class this year.

6 January
The Army's annual summer exercises in Patagonia finished successfully and had involved around 26,000 soldiers and nearly two full armoured brigades in the biggest set of field manoeuvres seen for several years. During this mixing of units and officers from across the country much mess talk was overheard, usual grumbles about pay and boring postings but also hopes that the new right-wing government would continue to furnish the defence budgets with ample Pesos. There was also some jealousy of the other armed forces. While the Army's new Italian T-7M45 Puma tanks were proving successful, the Air Force was getting new jet-powered fighters and the Navy had acquired a new battlecruiser, was building new destroyers and done deals with Japan for new submarines. In contrast the 1947 Army budget showed little new equipment beyond Auto Union Type 99 cars and Transporters. The anti-aircraft defences were shown to be growing obsolete in the face of newer and faster ground-attack aircraft and jet-fighters could easily prove a deadly threat. The Chief of Staff of the Army, General Miguel San Ferreira, would certainly be asking his political paymasters for new equipment in his post-exercise reports.

The Air Force has been mainly providing tactical reconnaissance and Army ground support with its I.Ae.23 Jaguars. I.Ae.24 Calquins and I-02R fighter-reconnaissance aircraft. 1 July
The AFNE Shipyard at Bahia Blanca today has laid down two more destroyers, Jujuy and Hercules, which will complete next year. Also laid down are the final two Project 621 Class minesweepers Mocovi and Morloyan which will complete before the end of the year. The fifth Project 455 destroyer, Heroina, has been laid down at Astillero Nav. in Puerto Belgrano. Her sister Murature at the same yard was launched on 15 June and currently sits in the fitting out dock. A surprise in naval circles was the quiet ceremony to lay the keel of a new transport at Tandanor Shipyard in Comodoro Rividavia. The Vicente Fidel Lopez will replace the 1905 vintage ship of the same name, it is thought that she was to be a modified Project 717 troop transport without the landing craft, but sources inside the Defence Ministry indicate that it was decided to save money by not changing the design and that the Marines had been lobbying for a second ship. The old converted liner America is also likely to be disposed of at the same time.

Japan will sends some stuff there as well to help out. I guess that a G10N1-K plane carrying vital goods and medical personel can be there in 40-45 hours...

...
...
...

... or is their stuff already there because of the 7.6 earthquake in the Junin Region 9 days earlier?
... Guess Japan will have to send some more stuff then if that is the case... :)

Looking at it some more, There was an earthquake on November 10, 1946 in the Ancash Region of 7.3 magnitude...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_earthquakes_in_Peru

... so maybe a mix up in year?

... on the other hand, assuming that in Wesworld the Ancash earthquake did not happen in 1946 but in 1947, it could probably be made a bit more powerful than the OTL 1946 quake as it would have collected a year worth of extra energy to unleash and create a few more casualties than OTL making it an even bigger disaster. OTL the epicenters of the two quakes are about 500 km apart so while there will be quite a bit of damage over two large areas, they are probably far enough apart to not create extra devastation to an area already hit hard by the first quake.

... of course this being Wesworld, there is nothing stopping Hood from putting the epicenters of the two quakes closer together and that way create a an even bigger humanitarian disaster.
