BH-1 Codger

On 18. December 1945, the two engineers Ximen Bao and Wan Li Huang founded their design office Bao - Huang. This was also the beginning of a fruitful collaboration.

The BH-1 "Codger" is planned as a successor of the Shennong "Dragonfly" and should be just as successful. Furthermore, it is planned to build an expanded version of the aircraft. This is supposed to have, inter alia, an increased range, 4 engines and a capacity of 30 passengers.

cruise speed: 297 km/h
service ceiling: 7900 m
range: 1610 km

Looks like the Chinese are busy with their evil schemes again. :)

An interesting enough design, though well behind its European and American counterparts in many respects. The Chinese market, however, is so vast that I have no doubt that the manufacturers will have a long run of orders from domestic airlines.

Considering their recent actions in the region, I can see the Chinese squeeze a bunch of paratroopers in the BH-1s and have them jump out over Indochina or the Philippines.

I wish they would try... :D

The expanded version really should be a second design shouldn't it?

Yes it will be a second design. But i have to find the dimensions ;) ?(

Question: A 12-cylinder radial engine? That's an odd number, isn't it? Will this even work?

My fault .... copied it from my source and didn't compare it with my used motors :( .... corrected to a 9-cyl radial.

IMHO a 9-cylinder radial developing 1,500 hp would be quite difficult to achieve; a likelier scenario would be a two row radial with 18-cylinders - effectively two 9-cylinder engines wedded together. Or even a 14-cylinder engine; something akin to the Wright Twin Cyclone.

May be a little bit misleading my posts ;(

For the BH-1 we have:

Quoted

Engine:
2x air cooled 9-cylinder radial motors with adjustable propellers each with 820 hp (Huang Po 132A-3)

for the BH-2 we have:

Quoted

Engine:
4x two-row air-cooled radial piston engines with adjustable propellers each with 1,500 hp

like the Nakajima Mamoru a 14 cylinder, air-cooled, two row radial engine.

So we have two different engines here. Hope now all is clear. I will modify the original post, so now nomore misunderstanding is possible.
