The Dornier Do31 was designed to complement the single-engine Do27 utility transport, and offering excellent short take-off and landing performance. The aircraft is designed such that the passenger seats are easily removed for the carriage of cargo, and tie-downs are provided in the floor of the aircraft. If required, the port-side cargo door can be removed to permit the air dropping of personnel or supplies.
