Warship Projects and Bob Henneman's old "Battlecruiser Forum"

Hello all,

It's been a while since I posted here (years in fact), but I recently 'spoke' to Wes, and I'd like to get you up-to-date on some happenings

As you may know, Bob Henneman passed away in April of 2014. His forum on yuku, the old Battlecruiser forum, was where his group reconvened when his phpbbplanet forum was destroyed. It had gone unmoderated for 11 months, so in March I asked Yuky if I could take over the forum. They graciously agreed, so please consider his old forum active.

http://alltheworldsbattlecruisers.yuku.com/directory

Please bookmark that site, as it is the directory. I've added a couple new forums to Bob's Warship Discussion, and I hope you'll share your drawings on our new Own Designs board.

Which brings me to Warship Projects. Again, as you may know, the 3.0 Warship Projects board was hacked and destroyed. Akos has reconvened on World of Warships

http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.ph…rship-projects/

He placed an introduction here:

http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.ph…on-and-welcome/

Since the board is controlled by the World of Warships Team and only 'national' boards were created, there is no Own Designs as we had on the 3.0 version. So I added the one above to Bob's forum.

Regards all,

Rich

Apparently my reply from yesterday didn't go through.......

Its unfortunate news regarding Bob, but its nice to see others take over his legacy.

Uh, had missed that news about Bob. May he rest in peace...

Thanks for the update, Rich. It really has been a long time seeing you here. But at least you found back to us - we are still here after all this time, though older, wiser and slower in posting. ;o)

Thanks Wes and Hoo.

Hoo, there was a lot going on in my life in April 2014; I didn't learn of Bob's passing until well after the fact.

There are some details on NavWeaps BB forum;

F2 and F3 battlecruiser designs

I thought I'd just tack this onto the previous announcement in lieu of a new post.

I started a thread over on the Warship Discussion forum's Own Design board on the F2 and F3 battlecruiser concepts.

These designs were for 35,000 ton, 15in armed battlecruisers, and came between the 'super-ships' of 1920, such as K2 and G3, and the O3 battleship design, which we know as Nelson and Rodney.

I started the thread with images Red Admiral had posted on the 3.0 Warship Projects boards, but thanks to member Smurf, I was able to post images of the real F2 and F3 from UK National Archives document Admiralty 1/9232, including plan views.

I thought the board might be interested in a look at the real F2 and F3, so they can be seen here:

Some WesWorld never-weres

With Swamphen's permission, over on the Warship Discussion Own Design Board, I've posted some drawings I did for him when he was Lord of the Philippines:

Smurf has been an invaluable help in my quest to draw every never built RN interwar capital ship over at Shipbucket. Using those plans of the Fs, which he sent me earlier this year,I am currently drawing both F2 and F3. His judicious judgement is invaluable when filling in the details and gaps in knowledge regarding these designs. It's only when you draw them you realise how isn't shown on these plans (especially the top views).

YAQW, Bruce. I hope more Wesworld designs will find their way over there

Smurf mentioned helping with RN cruisers over on Shipbucket. He never mentioned helping with the post-World War I 'letter-number' * concepts.

Thanks for the link, Hood. Those are some very impressive drawings.

Regards all,

*for those unfamiliar with the designs Hood and I refer to, postwar the RN had several concepts for future capital shpis. The battleships go forward from L to O, and the battlecruisers go backward from K to F, the letter being the 'ship' (though dimensions vary depending on the following number) and the number being the number of guns per main battery turret. The '2' concepts featured four twin turrets (B and X superfiring), while the '3' concepts usually featured three triple turrets, with B superfiring over A turret. The exceptions are "Roman Numeral" LII and LIII, which featured no superfiring (distinct from L2 and L3, WITH superfiring) and the H series, were H3a, H3b, and H3c all featured different layouts for the design's TWO main battery turrets. And design O3 was built, and we know it as the historical Nelson and Rodney....
