Véhicule léger de Découverte

The French Army finds itself in need of an all-terrain scout car - something in between the jeep-like unarmoured Peugeot VLR and the heavily-armed Panhard EBR. The vehicle needs to equip reconnaissance troops, artillery forward observers, and other similar units with something that is resistant to small arms fire, while still giving a good turn of speed and range. Can be made amphibious in five minutes through the addition of a floatation screen.

I'm envisioning something that looks like a Daimler Dingo or a Ferret.

That's a nice little design and quite handy, especially for rough terrain and tropical use.

I like the looks of the Dingo and Ferret too, I can imagine how a French version might look.
