Wound Badge

Wound Badge
The Wound Badge is a military decoration awarded to wounded soldiers of the Imperial Chinese Armed Forces.

It is awarded as a tribute to those who were wounded by enemy weapons during their brave use of their person for the fatherland.

Classes:
  • Black (3rd class, representing Iron), for those wounded once or twice by hostile action (including air raids) in the line of duty.
  • Silver (2nd class) for being wounded three or four times, or suffering loss of a hand, foot or eye from hostile action (also partial loss of hearing), facial disfigurement or brain damage via hostile action.
  • Gold (1st class, which could be awarded posthumously) for five or more times wounded, total blindness, "loss of manhood", or severe brain damage via hostile action.


Appearance:
The Wound Badge is a highly oval plug badge. The edges of the front panel indicate on the left and right side a rice wreath, which are united with a loop down the lower center. In the middle of the front a stylized army helmet is placed, which rests on a pair of crossed sabers in the background.

carrying method:
All versions of the Wound Badge were worn on the lower left breast of the uniform or tunic. The badge was worn below all other awards on the left.

Air Force

Wings of a Kite:
This badge is awarded after the successful completion of one of the air force academies. It is awarded as education acknowledgment to all pilots and is therefore not actually an award for military services.

Appearance:
The roundel of the Chinese Air Force is between two Kite Wings.

carrying method:
The "Wings" are worn as a badge on top of the medal bar on the left side of the uniform and over the breast pocket on the service shirt.

Medal of ......:
The following awards can be awarded to all members of the Air Force, and are a „visible sign of appreciation for parole at the front line in the air“ . They apply to:
  • Day Fighters
  • Night Fighters
  • Long Range Day Fighters
  • Air to Ground Support Fighters
  • Bombers
  • Reconnaissance
  • Transport and Glider

Medal of Rapacious Condor: awarded for 50 flight hours or 5 missions.
Medal of Winged Leopard: awarded for 100 flight hours or 10 missions.
Medal of Flying Tiger: awarded for 250 flight hours or 25 missions.
Medal of Winged Lion: awarded for 500 flight hours or 50 missons.
Medal of Flying Dragon: awarded for 700 flight hours or 70 missions.

Appearance:
A circular medal, surrounded by rice sectors. In the middle the mentioned animal is depicted - holding a flash in its claws.

carrying method:
The Order is worn on the left breast pocket.

Battle Stars:
The Battle Star is an attachment to the Order and Medal of the Chinese Air Force, which can be given once or several times during military operations. Thus, the following stars will be awarded:
  • 1 Star for 1 Kill
  • 2 Stars for 3 Kills
  • 3 Stars for 5 Kills
  • 4 Stars for 10 Kills
  • 5 Stars for 25 Kills
  • 6 Stars for 40 Kills
  • 7 Stars for 50 Kills
  • 8 Stars for 75 Kills
  • 9 Stars => 100 Kills

Appearance:
The five pointed stars will be used in a row.

The Order of the Dragon

The Order of the Dragon
This Order is the Empire of China's highest military award. The Order of the yellow dragon and its higher grades could be awarded for a wide range of reasons and across all ranks, including to a senior commander for skilled leadership of his troops in battle, or to a low-ranking soldier for a single act of extreme gallantry. It is a progressive award, with the order of the yellow dragon having to be earned before the red dragon and so on for the higher degrees.


Classes:
  • Order of the yellow dragon (8th class / brass):
    Awarded for bravery before the enemy or excellence in commanding troops.

  • Order of the red dragon (7th class / copper):
    Awarded for continuous bravery before the enemy or excellence in commanding troops after being awarded the preceding class of the yellow Dragon.

  • Order of the blue dragon (6th class / chrome):
    Awarded for continuous bravery before the enemy or excellence in commanding troops after being awarded all preceding classes of the dragon order.

  • Order of the black dragon (5th class / black iron):
    Awarded for continuous bravery before the enemy or excellence in commanding troops after being awarded all preceding classes of the dragon order.

  • Order of the bronze dragon (4th class / bronze):
    Awarded for continuous bravery before the enemy or excellence in commanding troops after being awarded all preceding classes of the dragon order.

  • Order of the silver dragon (3rd class / silver):
    Awarded for continuous bravery before the enemy or excellence in commanding troops after being awarded all preceding classes of the dragon order.

  • Order of the gold dragon (2nd class / gold):
    Awarded for continuous bravery before the enemy or excellence in commanding troops after being awarded all preceding classes of the dragon order.

  • Order of the double dragon (1st class / gold):
    Awarded for extreme battlefield bravery or successful leadership. As additional sign and for more commendation, the awarded soldier gets the "Honour Sabre of the Awakened Lion"


    Appearance:
    The medal has on the frontside the chinese dragon with 5 big claws and on the backside is stamped in chinese characters the slogan "In front of him the lion petrifies, and the tiger falls silent." The dragon is mounted on a blue disk, from which 12 white rays pointing in all directions. The eyes of the dragon are small diamonds. The class of the medal is represented by the dragon material.


    carrying method:
    The Order of the yellow dragon is worn on a blue-white-blue band in the buttonhole or clasp, the red dragon without band on the left breast side. All Orders above the red dragon are worn around the neck with a blue-white-blue band.
