Cruiser Design Challenge

With WW being in a slow period and with Bruce's discussion on small countries, I figure we can have some fun and see who can come up with the most interesting design. Only limit would be 10k ton light tonnage and 1944 engines. Who's up?

A most excellent idea to start of the New Year DesertFox; thank you!

I have taken a somewhat unorthodox approach to this design, choosing the 180mm gun as main armament. Some may say that going to the "full-bore" 8-inch gun is better value, but with a 10,000 ton limit, I did not want to skimp too much on protection. Wesworld heavy cruisers seem to come out somewhere between 12,000 and 13,000 tons light, and are very powerful vessels. My thoughts - good or bad - are that this design could out-range a 6-inch gun cruiser on the given tonnage.

As you point out, weird and useless.

That said, I don't see the goal of a design challenge as being the creation of weird and useless vessels, but the design of efficient or interesting ships within the challenge parameters. I will acknowledge that there is a fine line between "interesting" and "weird" - but I think I know either when I see it.

Wait! You're telling me a line exists between "interesting" and "weird"?? I thought they were the same thing. :D

There are those who prefer a 3x3 rather than 4x2 layout of main armament, so I took my prior design and reworked it along those lines. The LAA outfit has been strengthened and slightly re-arranged. The result is a marginally better seaboat and steadier gun platform.

There have been discussions on whether a triple turret could be carried on a fine hull - whether this design's BC is too fine I will leave to the beholder.

Interesting design choices. She had less reserve stability than I would like, and might have issues with heavy seas. But she certainly has a heavy broadside.

It does look as if you are using SS3 or some variant thereof though.
