Naval aviation training facilities

I notice that there is no provision for retaining ships with aviation facilities for training purposes. How, then, did aircrews and deck crews learn their trades? On the front-line carriers, or at specialized land bases?

When carriers were first introduced they themselves were experimental so they were used for training as well. When it became a more common design in the fleet training then occured on land and on fleet carriers on training cruises IIRC. Eventually purpose built training carriers would be built to free up the frontline units for war like the U.S.S. Sable built on top of a paddle steamer hull.
