Iberia

Things are tame in Bharat and Persia these days. I'm putting it out there that I'm interested in picking up Iberia. It'll let me get the capital ship urges out of my system, and fill a big hole in the sim.

Obviously, Iberia will be kept at arms' length from Bharat and Persia.

Whatcha'll think?

I don't think Iberia needs any more capital ships between all of the recent battleship classes - there's something like nine that are under five years old. But they definitely need some cruisers.

In response to the rest; eh, I suppose I've no objections. As you say, will fill a hole in the sim. (Please don't have the Iberian Civil War until after 1944!)

Oh, alright. 1945 at the earliest.

Mac's last report, I suppose. I know he had a crap-load of battleships building, as Brock notes. Beyond that - good question.

IIRC, at least four of them. I think Jason and I hunted for the sim once - never found one, but we know the tonnage and guessed 15" guns.

If you need any help with that civil war, let me know! :P

BTW none of the Iberian ships have any drawings... *hint hint*

Iberia does need a player, there is no two ways about it; and I have no good reason to object to Rocky's request.

While I hope that Iberia can avoid a civil war, if it becomes embroiled in a foreign war with some of its more noisome neighbors... :D

I have no idea who you could possibly be talking about.

No objections here it will be nice to see how Iberia responds to what the US has been building. If you count old ships they do have more capital ships than the US and twice as many new build battleships as well. Their carrier fleet isn't bad either. There is a dearth of modern cruisers though.

No objections, would be nice to have my troublesome neighbour alive and kicking. On the negative side I'm not looking forward to the catch up that instantly counters all my builds for the last 10 years or so.

No objections, I guess CG is going to remain AWOL for the foreseeable future. Three years of backlog to fill is some job given the new ships that could have been built.

What about Denmark? Is that to remain an NPC? I know its not as vital to world relations but its falling behind time too.
Poland, Thailand, Romania and Brazil are also falling years behind with no reports in some cases for four years now. Some kind of caretaking might be in order for some of these.

I think Denmark can remain NPC until Mac returns. Poland and Thailand the same. Jason's still playing Romania, and they're not too far behind anyway.

Hood, perhaps you and I can get together and catch Brazil up, seeing as they're an ally of ours. I know they have a lot of payments for their secondhand stuff.

I'm not sure you'll have a big problem there. My suspicion is that there will be a binge of cruisers and a lot of refits in the 1942-1944 period. Maybe a couple of new carriers.

Good idea. I'll refresh my memory of the last reports etc.

I can send you the plans I had for Brazil.

So after skimming sim reports, the encyclopedia, and the ship design forum, and the AEGIS forum, here are my initial thoughts:

-Iberia's naval infrastructure is in good shape, though I don't know why there's a type 5 slip and dock. Nothing that big in the sim anywhere, I don't think.

Capital Ships

-There are four Jupiter class BB building; the displacement doesn't match any version of Jupiter posted anywhere so I'll have to re-sim it at some point. It will be similar to the versions posted here, though. We'll see what the extra displacement gives me.

-The four Mercury class are fine, and are either in service or due to complete in 1942. I'll assume they have radar.

-The three La Luna small BB are about due for a refit.

-The eight older BB are all due for a refit - or, more practically, the breakers. One can expect the guns to be used as batteries in places.

Carriers

-The Navarras are serviceable, but overdue for a refit. They will likely linger on for a few years in secondary roles.

-The six newer carriers will need minor refits for radar

Large and Heavy Cruisers

-The three Santa Marias are thirty years old, due for a second refit or more likely the breakers.

-El Cid is due for a refit. She's a little old in the tooth.

-The ten Inigo Montoyas are due for a refit, which is fine since they have an inexplicably short belt that needs tweaking.

-The five escort cruisers are competent but due for a refit.

Light Cruisers

-A dog's breakfast.

-The Angolas are obsolete but may need to be retained for a few years until replacements come in. They had a refit in the twenties.

-The Santiago de Cubas are also nearing the end of their lives, but have not had a refit.

-The Avada Kedavra, Hastas, Teides, and San Hainandos are all due for refits now or soon. At least some do not conform to current hull strength rules.

-The new CLAA are competent leaders, though arguably a little small.

Destroyers

-The D83 class is due for refit.

-The D91, 113, and 127 classes are due for refit. More importantly, I have only displacements for data. They'll need to be re-simmed. At least there's a draft D91 that I can compare to.

-D142 and D179 types are okay. Some of the latter are missing from the encyclopedia.

Subs

-Some of the SE type are not listed in the encyclopedia. There's a lot of Iberian coastal boats.

Other

-Not a lot of auxiliaries in service.
