Yuugen Sekinin Nippon Doboku Kaisha Headquarters, Edo

Akaibara Yayoko: "Hi there. I would like to ask a few questions."

Receptionist: "Certainly, madam."

Yayoko: "Can we expect a statement regarding the incident in Manila."

Receptionist: "Manilla? Incident? What incident?"

Yayoko: "Regarding the customs frauds."

Receptionist: "Ah. You must be mistaken, madam. That was the Yugen Sekinin Nippon Doboku Kaisha. We are the Yuugen Sekinin Nippon Doboku Kaisha. Different characters. They're a rival organization."

Yayoko: "Oh... Okay... I did not know."

Receptionist: "Don't worry. Happens all the time. We tried to sue them for the use of that name, but we always seem to hit a wall. Almost as if someone powerful is working against us. The higher ups are considering giving up and changing the company's name."

Yayoko: "Sorry for bothering you regarding that. Bye." *leaves*

(2) Got the idea from a fansub of AKBingo! episode 180 I watched dealing with a fake psychic by the name of
Taresa Mada whose magic spell was Kabayodasou. When read backwards in Japanese (i.e. "ka-ba-yo-da-so-u") gave Uso da yo baka which was translated as "It's fake, you idiot". The fake psychic's name read backwards in Japanese resulted in Damasareta which was translated as "To be tricked".

The Japanese Mountaineering Organization formed an expeditionary group today that will attempt to climb the highest mountain of Japan, Europe, North Americ, South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and Antarctica.

The group will be led by experienced mountain climber Maki Yuko.

Maki indicated that there are still lots of unknowns about the icy continent of Antarctica. "Future explorations of the continent could reveal higher mountains than those currently known," he stated "But until then, Mount Kirkpatrick is the mountain to climb."

Clearly the biggest challenge facing the Expedition will be Mount Everest. "Numerous attempts to climb it have been made, but so far none are believed to have been successful," Maki told. "The odds will definitely be against us on that mountain but we try to remain optimistic."

Keeping all the logistics, preparations and travelling in mind, the Japanese Mountaineering Organization estimates that it will take the expedition 5 to 10 years to climb all the mountains.

The mountains to be climbed by Maki's expedition...

Nation: Japan
Mountain: Mount Fuji
Height: 3776 m
First ascent: 663 by an anonymous monk

Continent: Australia
Mountain: Mount Wilhelm
Height: 4509 m
First ascent: 1938 by Leigh Vial

Continent: Antarctica
Mountain: Mount Kirkpatrick
Height: 4528 m
First ascent: 1941 by Maki Yuko (1)

Continent: Europe
Mountain: Mont Blanc
Height: 4810 m
First ascent: 1786 by Jacques Balmat and Michel-Gabriel Paccard

Continent: Africa
Mountain: Kilimanjaro
Height: 5895 m
First ascent: 1889 by Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller

Continent: North America
Mountain: McKinley
Height: 6194 m
First ascent: 1913 by Hudson Stuck, Harry Karstens, Walter Harper and Robert Tatum

Continent: South America
Mountain: Aconcagua
Height: 6961 m
First ascent: 1897 by Matthias Zurbriggen

Continent: Asia
Mountain: Everest
Height: 8848 m
First ascent: Unknown, probably no successful ascent yet. (2)

Note on the mountains: The Japanese Mountaineering Organization considers the Kuma–Manych Depression to be the geological border between Asia and Europe so that would make Mont Blanc the highest mountain in Europe. It also (wrongfully) considers the whole of the Dutch East Indies to be part of Asia making Mount Wilhelm the highest mountain of the Australian Continent.

(1) Could not find anything on first ascent. Withthe mountain being in the Japanese sector, I would think that they would try and scale mountains there so used Maki as the first man on top.
(2) This would depend whether Mallory and Irvine managed to reach the top in 1924.

A passenger plane from Chitose to Nagoya failed to arrive yesterday evening and is presumed to be lost. A large scale search operation was started this morning to find the missing aircraft.

The Imperial Japanese Airways Nakajima L5N1 was carrying about 50 passengers and crew.

The first ascent was in 1991 by an American scientific team according to the American Alpine Journal. The first ascent of an Antarctic four thousander was somewhere in the 1960s.

The Vinson Massif/Mount Vinson (highest Antarctic point) was first ascended in "1966 by Nicholas Clinch and party" (according to Wiki). Looking at images of Mount Kirkpatrick, it does not look too bad to climb it. The main challenges would be the Antarctic climate/weather and getting to Antarctica.

Wreckage from the missing Imperial Japanese Airways passenger plane has been located on the western flank of Mount Ontake. No survivors were reported.

A small group of investigators are on their way to examine the wreckage of the plane.

Taniguchi Arata looked around the area at the big and small pieces from the aircraft wreck, blackened by the fire that had broken out after the plane slammed into the mountain. Arriving at the site about three hours ago, he had started to look around the area right away for possible clues strews across this side of Mount Ontake.

Taniguchi went back up through the forrested area up to the impact site. Most of the plane was here, from the impact site down the side of the ridge where some of the piece had ended up sliding down into a stream.

"Anything, sir?" Taniguchi's junior assistant, Sato Norio, asked as he got back to the impact site.

"Yes..." Taniguchi mumbled as he looked around the crash site again. "Did You manage to get more information about the situation in the area?"

Sato nodded. He handed a piece of paper to Taniguchi. "According to people living to the West, there was a thunderstorm during the afternoon with heavy downpour and limited visibility."

Taniguchi glanced at the paper with weather information. "... if a plane crashes accidentally into a mountain, you would expect it all to be here, right?"

"Yes."

"So... where is the number 1 engine? Despite the damage, it is still possible to recognize parts of the engines, but by the looks of it, there are only three engines here."

"Uhm..." Sato looked around. "Maybe it was lost when the plane hit a higher part of the mountain before crashing here?"

"Up there?" Taniguchi asked as he pointed up to the summit of Mount Ontake.

"Yes... maybe..."

Taniguchi shook his head. "Looking at the impact site and how the pieces of the wreck are spread out in comparison to the impact crater, the plane came in from the Northwest so that would make it highly unlikely that the plane hit the mountain at a higher point before crashing here. If that were the case, the wreck would be orientated into the opposite direction."

"... but that would mean that the number 1 engine got separated from the plane before it crashed here."

"Yes... and it is out there... somewhere..."

A most interesting and unfortunate development. German technical authorities offer assistance in evaluating the findings to determine root cause and identify means to prevent future occurrences.

A preliminary report came out today regarding the loss of Imperial Japanese Airways Flight 315 from Chitose to Nagoya last month. With the location of the wreck of a second plane found during the search of a missing engine from the L5N1 passenger plane, it is now believed that this plane collided with Flight 315 in bad weather.

The Imperial Japanese Navy has confirmed that one of its Nakajima J5N1 fighters was listed as missing while on patrol after that day and the assumption is that it got caught in the bad weather and collided with the L5N1 of Imperial Japanese Airways which also got caught in the storm. An IJN team was sent to the area and very quickly recovered the plane wreck for further investigations.

However the Naval expert known as 'Ken' was not convinced that the plane in question was a Nakajima J5N1. He told AWNR that he believed it to be an unknown high-speed, jet-powered prototype plane which was more advanced than the Nakajima J1N3 or the Watanabe J7W2. According to Ken, this would also explain the speedy recovery of the wreck by the Navy.

September 6, 1944
The Naval expert known as 'Ken' was found dead this morning...

... again...

Apparently while at home, he tripped over his vacuum cleaner, fell off his balcony and got decapitated by the propellor of an Imperial Japanese Airways L4N2.

Maybe he's a naval expert that lives next to an airport and his balcony overlooks an apron or taxiway?

My thoughts as well. It's very dangerous!! :)

No he doesn't live anywhere near an airport. If he did, then his demise would not be suspicious enough.

Additional note by AWNR on September 6, 1944:

Oonishi Manzo denies that he was at the controls of the Nakajima J5N1 which crashed into the Nakajima L5N1. He told that the wreck of his J5N1 was actually somewhere at the bottom of Kagoshima Bay.

The Mili Atoll Weather Station (MAWS) reported severe weather consistent to that of a tropical cyclone moving through the area. No casualties were reported so far but there was indications of damage sustained due to the strong winds, heavy downpour and high seas on neighbouring islands.

With rough guesses, it is believed that it is heading in a west-northwest to north-northwest direction meaning that if the storm keeps on going into the assumed direction, it might hit anywhere from Luzon, Philippines to Hokkaido, Japan.

September 23, 1944

It was reported that yesterday an Imperial Japanese Navy G8N2 bomber safely made it back to base after it was deliberately flown into and out of Typhoon 44-3 by its crew as part of an experiment.

The plane took off from Iwo Jima before Typhoon 44-3, the same tropical cyclone that was reported by the Mili Atoll Weather Station several days ago, passed to the south of the island.

Typhoon 44-3 only glanced Iwo Jima so damage as a result of the storm was limited with one barrack and several planes sustaining minor damage due to the winds.

Today, the Imperial Japanese Navy tested a new weapon system from the Yokosuka Naval Air Technical Arsenal designated the MXY7. The weapon was dropped by a modified G4M2 bomber from an altitude of 2000 meters before it crashed onto the Okino Kita Iwa Firing Range in what was said to be a successful test.

Preparations are already being made for for a full scale test which will see the MXY7 being launched from a much higher altitude with a 1200 kg warhead and being guided to a target on the Okino Kita Iwa Firing Range.
