Second Air Force



Zone of operations includes the northwestern United States and Upper Great Plains Region.

Headquarters - Fort George Wright, Wash

OOB - 3 Interceptor Groups, 3 Bombardment Groups (1 Heavy, 2 Medium, 1 Light) 2 Observation Groups 1 Transport Group.

Third Air Force



Zone of operations includes the southeastern United States

Headquarters - McDill Field, FL

OOB - 5 Interceptor Groups, 6 Bombardment Groups (3 Heavy, 2 Medium, 1 Light), 3 Observation Groups 2 Transport Groups.

Fourth Air Force



Zone of operations includes the southwestern United States.

Headquarters - March Field, CA

OOB - 5 Interceptor Groups, 2 Fighter Groups, 7 Bombardment Groups (3 Heavy, 2 Medium, 2 Light), 3 Observation Groups, 2 Transport Groups.

Fifth Air Force



Zone of operations includes the Lower Midwestern United States and Gulf of Mexico Region

Headquarters - Barksdale Field, LA

OOB - 5 Interceptor Groups, 2 Fighter Groups, 6 Bombardment Groups (3 Heavy, 2 Medium, 1 Light), 3 Observation Group, 2 Transport Groups.

Sixth Air Force



Zone of operations include the Mexican Canal Zone.

Headquarters - Allbrook Field, Mexican Canal Zone

OOB - 5 Interceptor Groups, 6 Bombardment Groups (3 Heavy, 2 Medium, 1 Light), 3 Observation Groups, 2 Fighter Groups, 2 Transport Groups.

Seventh Air Force



Zone of operations includes the Hawaiian Department and other American possessions in the Pacific.

Headquarters - Hickam Field, Oahu

OOB - 4 Interceptor Groups, 2 Fighter Groups, 6 Bombardment Groups (3 Heavy, 2 Medium, 1 Light), 3 Observation Groups, 1 Transport Group

Notes - Groups are usually 3 squadrons in strength.

Fighter/Interceptor Squadrons have 16 planes/squadron

Bombardment/Observation Squadrons have 12 planes/squadron

Transport Squadrons have 24 planes/squadron
