- The Saab 21F (from 'Forbattrat', 'improved') shares its wing, tail, and cockpit area with the older base-type Saab 21, but features altered nose and engine sections. The 12-cylinder X75-1450 has been replaced with a faster-revving 16-cylinder X85-2250, and the original armament of one 20mm cannon and 4 machine guns has been concentrated into the nose as five 20mm cannon. The increase in power has been largely canceled by the increase in weight as far as agility is concerned, but firepower and top speed have increased, especially in a dive. As an additional quality-of-life improvement and easy visual distinguishing mark, the 'razorback' over the engine bay has been cut down to allow improved visibility from the new greenhouse canopy.

Looks like a sensible and cost effective solution. I'm not sold on the V-16 idea still but its nice to have something different.

I've very pleased with the 21F myself. It uses almost entirely existing parts but should easily be able to hold its own for the four or five years until the Saab 29 - which will be the historical type, a year or two early as seems called for in Wesworld - is around.
