Mountain Division

The mountain troops are part of the Chinese ground forces, specifically trained and equipped
for fighting in difficult terrain (especially in the mountains) and under adverse climatic conditions.
Thus these troops are trained and equipped for use in high altitudes and in extreme cold.

The creation of a mountain unit takes time, because the training of mountain troops involves an
intensive training program on rock climbing, rappelling, skiing and shooting in the mountains and
under snow conditions. Among other things part of the training is a four week long alpine exercise
in the summer(marching and shooting within the company or battalion). In autumn followed then
the further training, this is individual, with emphasis on reconnaissance. Due to the use of troops
in inhospitable terrain, the divisions have a relatively large number of mules and horses.
